Super User Oregon Native Posted December 20, 2019 Super User Posted December 20, 2019 Putting together a bucket list you might say for when the chemo/rad is done...was told to get er done by Docs.....so anyway planning on hitting Lanier this spring for two or three days and was told I may want to stop by Carter's Lake also....last lake will probably be Chic on way home for the day....was thinking of Pickwick but just may be too much time away for son. Hope to hit road in in Feb.... 4 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 20, 2019 Super User Posted December 20, 2019 Pickwick would probably be my primary destination, but I like fishing for smallies. Good luck, and keep us updated. Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted December 20, 2019 Super User Posted December 20, 2019 If we’re talking February, then definitely Pickwick. Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted December 21, 2019 Author Super User Posted December 21, 2019 Don't get me wrong....I to love the smallies.....love. Coming from the Colombia River country I was spoiled on river smallies....hundred fish days were sometimes the norm. Now I'm leaning toward fishing places have heard amazing stories about and fairly close. Love this land out east and am thinking of Pickwick for desert if son can swing it. I kinda have more time...but short time. He has three awesome kinds a beautiful wife and a fairly new job that is just starting to blossom. I say I don't like to impose or cause bumps....(yes....I get (@!#$) for this....but....I grew em good....set em free and have no regrets. Want him to have a fond memory trip to remember the ol fart head. Who knows....may get in another one....yes. 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 22, 2019 Super User Posted December 22, 2019 February can be very good on the Tennessee River below the Pickwick Dam or below Wilson Dam. Locals can pick a day, but it is EXTREMELY difficult to "plan a trip" due to the weather. Some days are simply unfishable. 2 Quote

Yeah. One February in the 90’s I was fishing below Wilson dam and they were releasing a lot of water. I was fishing 16# test and had my drag locked down. I caught a smallie over 4, then one over 5, then I hooked a monster that jumped and then headed into the current and broke my 16# line. I’ve set my drag regularly with a scale ever since. That fish still haunts me. When it’s on at Pickwick it’s special. 1 Quote

Or when I go camping there, it’s 3.5 foot rollers and I dragged an 18ft aluminum boat and nearly ended up on and island with gilligan 1 1 Quote

Appreciate this....but am going to pass on guides. Over the years I have had a number of them...maybe it's just !@#$ luck but have never been happy happy at the end of a day with guides. I'm sure their fine people but I have not been lucky. I've got so many things going on in this head right now that I'm just trying to stay positive. I've had a couple people willing to share some area's and since probably won't be back they're good with it....it's all good....it's an aventure as my grand son would say. Thank you Quote

Let me know if you change your mind and I can put you in touch. Alternatively, perhaps I can at least get you in contact with him so he can get you started with a few tips. 1 Quote
