Catt. did you ever get out turkey hunting?

After 2 hurricanes & a tropical storm...farthest thing from my mind.

I have managed 3 fishing trips this month.

Somebody say turkey hunting?? Love it! Been chasing thunder chickins for 22 yrs, taken them in AR my home state, also in TX, NE, KY, VT. Hope to get a crack at one in PA this year!
Fishing?? Love that too, why we’re here, rite?

Turkey hunter here, and I only hunt them in the fall. Luckily for us, PA lets us use rifles in the fall. So my weapon of choice is the 204, so that stretches my range a lot further than a shotgun.

I could never get the hang of a mouth call. If I could, that's what I'd use. I like a slate call personally. My Dad is a fan of box calls. Find what works best for you and go with it.

No more. Game commission just put a stop to fall turkey hunting with a rifle. Starting fall of 2021

Good luck Tony. I too am a turkey addict. I’ve hunting all over the country. I have 3 grand slams, one with a muzzle loader shotgun. It’s my other drug of choice with fishing.

Lately I haven’t been using a call at all. Pressured birds don’t respond to calls and they are repelled by decoys too. So I’ve simply been setting up on a daily travel route waiting for one to walk by within range. Scouting this ahead of time is crucial. It’s honestly more like deer hunting with this strategy.

The biggest problem is you hear guys out there that just call and call and call. Then they wonder why there call shy.

Its a shame your area is that pressured, kinda take a lot of the thrill out of it.

It’s partly due to me hunting the same core area for years and likely a lot of the same turkeys too.

The first season here starts on April 14. I intend to hunt season B which starts April 21, one month from tomorrow. Nothing says spring like a thunderous turkey gobble that echoes across the countryside.

Ours isn’t until May 1. Good luck. You are so right. Listening to gobbles at first light makes you glad to be alive.

I hunted season B here in MN for 5 days straight. Awful conditions. Rain, snow, wind, cold temps...but I saw the most turkeys I’ve ever seen in a single season - 57 turkeys. I’m sure many of them were the same birds. Unfortunately not a single legal bearded male turkey came within range. It was quite frustrating just watching turkeys on a field every hunt and nothing to do about it. I moved my blind a couple times, tried calling, putting out decoys, etc. Nothing. I guess I can’t complain about seeing so many. I may never see that many again in a single season.
