Cranking Rod

Ok I’m in a pickle here with rods. Idk what length I want my squarebill rod to be. I want a rod length between 7’0 to 7’4. In my situation I love throwing the 1.5 KVD squarebill. It doesn’t dive to deep so u don’t need the most distance. I also cast 2.5 KVD squarebills and up which dive deeper so I would have to get it out farther. Idk what length to choose but either way it is going to be a medium fast action. I was leaning towards the G-Loomis IMX Pro Mag Bass Casting Rod, Lew’s Team Pro Ti Speed Stick Casting Rod, and the Dobyns Champion Extreme HP Split Grip Casting Rod.

I don't really think its worth splitting hairs to pinpoint an "ideal" length of rod within that 4" range.  I would say, choose a company and line of rods based on other features first (power, action, reel seat, handle length, grip, guides, finish, price, warranty etc.), and then pick whatever model they have that falls somewhere in that range.

I cast squarebills between 1.5 to 4.0. I need an all around squarebill rod. I want a medium power fast action rod but have no clue what length I should get. Either a 7’0 or 7’4 rod. Should I go shorter or longer for an all around squarebill rod.

I think 7' to 7'2 is a good length for accurately casting squarebills shallow. A lot of people really like the St Croix legend glass 6'10s for all around shallow cranking. 

 

A general 7' Medium rod is really all you need for squarebills. 

 

IMHO 7'4 would be a bit long.

I can highly recommend this rod, I have one dedicated to 1.5's and another I use for Sammy 100's and Spook Jr's. Great action and sensitivity. It doesn't have the fast action you stated but it's perfect for squarebills and smaller walking baits. 1/2oz treble baits are in this rods sweet spot

I will give another vote for the Legend Glass.  I have the 7'2'' M Moderate and it has been fantastic.
