Roundhouse Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 I'm looking to buy a high end rod for Soft Plastic jerkbaits (Super Flukes, Caffeine Shads, etc.). Right now, I have my eye on two rods. (1) G. Loomis GLX 802C JWR 6'8" Medium/Extra Fast or (2) St. Croix Legend Xtreme EC610MXF 6'10" Medium/Extra Fast. Anyone fished with both of these or have any opinion on which one would be better for this specific application? Also, I'm open to suggestions as well. Money is not really the issue, and I've even thought about splurging for an G loomis NRX or Conquest....but if there are any other high end rods that are better for soft plastic jerkbaits, I would love to hear any suggestions. TBAG Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 I've never owned a Legend Xtreme but I'm a huge St. Croix and Loomis fan. I've had the 853c and 854c in the IMX pros and both were excellent rods, lightweight, sensitive and well made. I've got several St. Croix rods as well and my only complaint (other than my Avids) is they tend to be a bit tip heavy. I'd maybe handle both if you are able to but I don't think you can go wrong with either one of your choices. Quote
thunderblack Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 Can't go wrong with either. I fish mostly spinning but have owned LX and GLX and still have a couple GLX rods. Legend Extreme rods are great. Comes down to handle preference to me. NRX and Conquest are both great rods too with NRX being great for bottom contact. For what your fishing I would buy GLX or Megabass Destroyer. I prefer cork handles. Hope this helps Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 I've got both of those rod types. Not those lengths. I really like the Xtremes over my GLX's. I only have 2 GLX's anymore compared to the about 6-8 Xtremes. Quote
mc6524 Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 I have both also and I would agree you would not go wrong with either. IMHO, I think the Legend has a little more backbone, and for that reason if I were to choose between the two, I’d lean toward the GLX, nut again it’s depending on what type of bait you’re going to fish with it. LegendaryBassin Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 Tough as they are sweet! Comes down to which taper you prefer. You can't go wrong. Quote
waymont Posted November 22, 2019 Posted November 22, 2019 All my LTB casting rods were too tip heavy for me, not sure of the higher lines of St Croix rods. All of my Loomis IMX , IMX Pro, and GLX rods are perfect. I prefer the Loomis MBR and JWR tapers to the st croix rods. My 2 cents Quote
Super User FishTank Posted November 22, 2019 Super User Posted November 22, 2019 I have two that similar to what you are looking at.... I have the 803C GLX and Legend Elite 6'10'' M X-fast. Both are great rod. I think I like the Legend Elite a little better but it's pretty close. Another rod I like even better though is the G. Loomis 783C GLX. This rod can do whatever and it's perfect for jerkbaits> sensitive, soft tip, and just the right length to work a bait. Quote
