Ski213 Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 Just curious on this. Technology has come a long way I guess, but there’s something about them that I still like. They have been very durable for me. Typically I still have two rigged every time go out on the big boat. Just wondered if anybody else still fished them at times. Maybe it’s sentimental value to me. The “greenie” was my first expensive bait caster back in the day. $119 or maybe $129. Big money for a teenager back in the 90s. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted November 16, 2019 Super User Posted November 16, 2019 The guy I fish with each week has 4 of them. Some are in better condition than others but they still work great and catch a lot of fish. 1 Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted November 16, 2019 Super User Posted November 16, 2019 I have 1 left. I carry it as a loaner fo guests. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 16, 2019 Global Moderator Posted November 16, 2019 Finally decided to sell mine this summer. Loved those reels, but wanted to sell them while they still had value. Parts are getting harder to find and I didn't want them to start breaking and needing parts that I couldn't find or were too expensive to be worth fixing and have to sell them as parts reels. Best workhorse reels I've ever owned. 1 Quote
r83srock Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 My first good baitcaster was a cu200b38. I still have it and it’s in very good shape. Save a couple weeks of lawn mower and hay stacking money to buy it. I have two more cu200 in 6.1 and a parts reel someone gave me. And I have 2 of the 100b reels, my favorite. The ergonomics are excellent. My dad has a quite a few 100s he’s still using. I used all of mine until last year, but I’ve found newer technology that I’m happy with. My b series reels will still maintained, and kept nice, but I’ll likely only take them out on occasion, just for fun. Give them to my future son someday. I just sold some e series citicas, Curados and and some g series as well to make room for a few new tatula 100s, but I will not part with the b series. 1 Quote
5/0 Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 I have 4 of them and still use them every outing. I did take a 10 year hiatus from fishing due to work and family, so they are in good shape. As stated, parts are a problem. Currently purchasing reels now and then to eventually replace them. As long as they can be serviced and remain in good working order I will use them. They are good reels, especially considering the cost of good reels today. 1 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted November 16, 2019 Super User Posted November 16, 2019 Still throwing a CU200, CU200B5 and a CU200BSF 1 Quote
Super User Log Catcher Posted November 16, 2019 Super User Posted November 16, 2019 I have 5 of them. I have 2 200B38s, 2 in 5:1 gear ratio, and 1 in 6:1 ratio. I use the 3:8s once in a while. I still use 1 5:1 for crankbaits. The level wind on the other one wore out and quit working so it is a parts reel now. I keep the 6:1 in the boat as a backup in case I have a problem with one of my other reels. I still love them and wish they still made them. 1 Quote
18Steel Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 Currently have 3, as long as they hold up and parts are still available I see no reason to replace. Not to jinx it but they have always been solid. 1 Quote
Ski213 Posted November 16, 2019 Author Posted November 16, 2019 Glad to see there are some still out there in use. Yeah parts can be the issue for sure. I have a couple spares that came from a guy who never fished frequently so they’re basically new. Hopefully when my others give up I’ll put those either in regular use or relegate them to “guest” reels. Quote
