Wes LaPoint Posted November 12, 2019 Posted November 12, 2019 BassResource, InformativeFisherman when I want to learn about something specific. You can learn a lot from other channels that aren't necessarily trying to "teach"...Smallmouth Crush, Bassinbill96, all Googan Squad members, Milliken Fishing, Scott Martin, etc
AstroFishingTV Posted November 12, 2019 Posted November 12, 2019 Going from the most helpful (IMO) to the more laid back channels in the informatory side of fishing: Fish the moment, Scott Martin, Bama Bass, Lake Fork Guy, and Lunkerstv. The last two have helped me as well just more of an entertainment channel. They seemed to be more informative in the past. Hope this helps! I used to live on youtube lol. The Googan squad is a good group for the most part, they do have expensive baits but they are fairly close to something like that of Yamamoto. Quality/catch rate is close as well.
Super User NYWayfarer Posted November 12, 2019 Super User Posted November 12, 2019 Add Tylers Reel Fishing to the list. Lots of good information. 1
Luke Barnes Posted November 12, 2019 Posted November 12, 2019 A big one for me has been Debos Fishing. He explains what he is using, why he is using it, and how to use it. He replies to questions I ask as well. He breaks it down and isnt a hype man. Genuine love of fishing. Realistic fishing is cool. I've learned some little tips here and there. Bassresource really breaks down individual baits and techniques and I've learned from them.
BassinCNY Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 I think the first bass fishing video I watched was Greg Blanchard. I still enjoy his videos. Of course Bass Resource. I recently found YourLakeForkGuide and have been enjoying those videos. Also The Nature of Fishing, NDYakAngler, Roland Martin Outdoors and Aj Lynn. I obviously have a preference for the more low key guys. 1
punch Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 Shout out to FLW pro Miles "Sonar" Burghoff who puts out some good stuff on his channel. He's not SUPER active but he knows his stuff. https://www.youtube.com/user/SonarFishing/videos And nobody has mentioned David Dudleys (FLW AOY) channel yet? He's like the rainman when it comes to fishing tackle. His channel is getting quite good. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVSSi30MIufm_iVFPoELqmQ/videos On 11/11/2019 at 8:34 PM, TriStateBassin106 said: For starters Bassresource has a great YouTube channel that I have learned a lot from this year. My personal channels are Realistic Fishing, Debo's Fishing, Tacklejunky81, Alex Rudd fishing, NDyakangler. If you're a beginner please stay away from those Googan squad guys. They don't provide any knowledge, only entertainment and overpriced baits. Sorry but I totally disagree. Most of the Googan's audience are anglers under 18, they are the PERFECT channel to watch for people who want to get excited about the hobby. A couple of them are very good anglers as well (LFG, John B, Lukers). Like it or not the Googans are firing up the next generation of fishermen by a huge factor. If my kids were getting into fishing i'd be perfectly fine with them watching them. 2 1

I'm a Junior in high school and am hoping to fish all the way through college as well. Their are a couple of them that could have went pro with bass fishing, I know LFG decided that he didn't want to do it anymore after he got married. They are good guys, fun to watch, and entertaining.
Super User FryDog62 Posted November 13, 2019 Super User Posted November 13, 2019 I like watching the Angling Edge, Lake Commandos and Weirdtoofish videos because they fish where I fish. How they approach a body of water is what's most helpful. Weirdtoofish just did a clip comparing various crayfish imitators that I though was really good, and they aren't tied to one bait manufacturer. Glenn/BR is always good and I watch a little Tactical Bassin. Anything with Swindle is more entertaining than instructional, but I really enjoy playing some of his stuff for my wife. She has a hard time deciphering some of his redneck slang but gets quite a kick out of him. And her eyes get as big as saucers when I play his Dude Wipes promotions.

The googan squad give a very unrealistic view of fishing towards the young bucks (beginners) out there. Realistic Fishing did a video about this topic, if you're a beginner and watch the googan squad or other "hype bro fishing channels" (You know the one's I'm talking about, hip hop beats and cinematic editing) you're going to be a bit confused and annoyed that you went fishing at your local pond and weren't catching fish on every cast like the googans did on private farm ponds and lakes on 90,000$ boats. Those channels are great for people like us who know what we're doing and they provide entertainment, but they do not provide knowledge. (Something beginners need). Please watch educational videos if you're a beginner. You're gonna need to know how to tie a texas rig or cast a baitcaster if you want to have a chance at catching any bass like these guys on the googan channels do.

You have your opinion on it and I have mine, but if I'm getting someone into our wonderful sport I want them to learn how to chase bass like the googans do. Not just watch people catch them and not know how too.

plawren53202 Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 I'm somewhat in the middle on this one. I do watch regularly, and greatly appreciate, the more "educational" YouTubers...names like Bass Resource, Iaconelli, Brian Latimer. I really enjoy and appreciate the way they typically take one topic or technique and systematically break it down. As a (relatively) experienced fisherman, this is very helpful to me. Even as a kid watching Bill Dance, Roland Martin etc. on TV, I remember liking in particular the shows that took a more instructional approach rather than just showing them hauling in fish after fish in some place that was probably private and stocked to the gills (pun intended). I also like a couple of more "average joe" YouTubers, Realistic Fishing and Debo. I appreciate their perspectives as people who aren't tournament pros, aren't the beneficiaries of major sponsorships, and don't seem to try to oversensationalize or "whoa dude" every little thing. If I were not a fisherman at all I don't know that I'd get into fishing just from watching their videos. But as someone who has fished for 40+ years and can still go out and get skunked, I really enjoy their viewpoints. However, I have also subscribed to a fair share of the Googan squad or Googan-type YouTubers--Kickin their Bass TV, Fishing with Norm, John B., LoJo, etc.--and I enjoy those as well. I recognize them for what they are, and also recognize where some sponsorship-type arrangements also influence content. But I enjoy the entertainment factor. I am also surprised (as someone else said in this thread) that I do pick up a fair amount of tips from them, many times not necessarily things they are expressly explaining, but just things in passing or things I see. Now, which is better for a newbie or someone not yet in the sport? That's a hard question. I look at my 16-year old son as an example. He has done a little fishing here and there but is not yet a diehard like me. I think he would find Tactical Bassin to be pretty boring and would zone out quickly. However, he has watched some of the Kickin their Bass, Fishin with Norm and Jon B. videos and found them entertaining. I think these YouTubers are more likely to generate interest in fishing, which then hopefully translates to someone digging in deeper and transitioning to the more instructional folks. I also understand that generational differences, etc., the Googan squad-type fishing bros just aren't everyone's cup of tea. Totally understandable. I think the number of subscribers for all of these folks, in each category, proves that each found a role to fill and are doing it well. 1
STBen1215 Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 Bama Bass, and even Tacticalbassin got old and boring to me. Tacticalbassin just seems to want to push product now. Tacticalbassin has wonderful insight but most of his videos are so repetitive now. However, Fish the Moments videos are extremely insightful and he does a great job. There are a lot of great videos just depends on the topic.

I watch all of them.
galyonj Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 It's hard for me to separate fishing-focused channels that are purely instructional from those that are purely entertainment when I scroll through my subscriptions list, because I find so many of them to be as entertaining as they are educational. So I guess I'm just gonna go through my list: Alex Rudd Fishing (Who's local to me. I keep hoping I'll see him around so I can talk my way onto the boat with him.) Bamabass BassGeek Brain Latimer Debo Fish the Moment Bassresource Mikeybalzz has some good stuff, but I end up skipping him in the recommendations as often as not Realistic Fishing Saw Grass Bassin' When I first got back into fishing after going 20-ish years without it, I watched a few videos from dudes that I now recognize to be on the Googan Squad. They're pretty entertaining, but that's about as far as I go. I haven't learned anything from them, and I don't follow them. Honestly, good for them getting to turn something they love into a career. We should all be so lucky. 1
Super User Boomstick Posted November 15, 2019 Super User Posted November 15, 2019 Bassresource also has helpful videos as well, and I also follow CatfishAndCarp for catfishing tips and entertainment. Every now and then I'll find some useful stuff on other channels too like Brian Latimer's and MilikenFishing among others. 813basstard Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 Watch any of the pros fish an actual tournament. That’s where I learn. It’s like watching/listening to a football coach on the whiteboard vs being in a game..give me the game 1
Caliyak Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 The Nature of Fishing- most educational Blanchard Fish the Moment
GReb Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 Fish the Moment will help you put fish in the boat. There’s no pushing baits and $400 rods/reels. Its all about breaking down a lake and finding active fish.

jebar01 Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 I watch "Debo's" mainly. I am a bank fisherman and he very good and teaching , especially the "little tricks". Just an average fishing nut like the rest of us. By the way, I used some of the trick worm tips he suggested and my grandson caught his "PB", a two pound largemouth on my birthday!! Best present I ever received. 2
