Jermination Posted November 4, 2019 Posted November 4, 2019 guys i don't know if it's turned into a desperation/confidence thing but this year I've really noticed scents making a difference--whether it be getting that extra second or two of hang on time while dragging football heads or pulling a soft plastic. I've tried a bunch of different ones and in conclusion, gulp night crawler seems to be the most productive thing, even spraying on jigs. I'd like to hear some opinions Quote

A-Jay what's it smell like? ive done a few tests this year and "gulp nightcrawler" and "bang crawdad" have been the two best, with nightcrawler catching half a dozen more than my partner throwing the exact same thing minus scent Quote

The crawdad has a slight smell to it. It's more of a flavor adder to the bait, rather than making it stink. And yes, it works very well. 2 Quote

Additionally, I do not care what it smells like to me - bass aren't smelling this. They EAT it. And that's all that matters in my world. Just ask @Bobby Uhrig he'll tell ya. Jermination Posted November 4, 2019 Author Posted November 4, 2019 yeah i've been down the scientific rabbit hole already LOL at this point if i think i would eat it if i were a fish, it gets thrown a time or ten Quote
Brayberry Posted November 4, 2019 Posted November 4, 2019 I've never tried scents. I wish manufacturers would make like .5 oz tubes to test out. I'd imagine they would work, especially on a tough bite Quote

The smell will gag a maggot! I've known guys that will rub it on their hands to mask any scent such as sunscreen when handling baits. It's getting a little too messy for me. Will Megastrike do the same thing? Not that I would waste it as a hand conditioner, but would applying it cover any scent that may be on your hands? Do you use only the Original? It has a gel like consistency below @70 degrees and above that, it seems a little more like a medium liquid. When it gets hot (insert Mexico) you'll be dealing with a thinner liquid. (Tossing it in the cooler is the deal) Regardless of the temp - the stuff works for me. And one BIG benefit IMO, is that it makes my bait 'slippery' - love everything about that. That said, I apply it with my 'non-reeling hand' and always have a micro fiber rag handy to wipe off. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. A-Jay 1 Quote
Harold Scoggins Posted November 4, 2019 Posted November 4, 2019 Stuff your blender with crawfish and turn it on the highest setting...that's what this stuff smells like. Bass love it. Quote
BassinCNY Posted November 5, 2019 Posted November 5, 2019 I like anise because it's as pleasant to me as it is to the fish. Quote

It is pretty stinky - something like the keitechs but not exactly. I'm wondering if the tubes got switched around at TW. Anyway, the stuff works. No more bites, but they don't want to let go when they do bite it. I figure even if it is all in my head it is masking bad scents like sunscreen and making it slippery. By the way, megastrike + a UV light = a surprise. Quote

I can't tell if it is from a bunch of organics or an additive. But if you buy the "bass retain the ability to see into the UV spectrum after early life" story, then it's got that too. It lit up enough that I'm careful to keep it off the line, just in case. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted November 5, 2019 Super User Posted November 5, 2019 Thanks tx...that's very interesting. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted November 6, 2019 Super User Posted November 6, 2019 Mega Strike and Smelly Jelly is what I have used on occasion. Quote
Super User whitwolf Posted November 7, 2019 Super User Posted November 7, 2019 I like and use Megastrike. To be honest I was quite surprised about how well it has worked! I prefer the original. I also use JJ's Magic. It can be a pain as you need to be careful to not spill..I mostly due the rails on worms and my creature baits. Quote
deadadrift89 Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 I fished with the same guy on most Fridays over about a 3yr. period. He never used scent I always did, never noticed a difference in catch ratio between us. Definitely made me rethink using a scent. If I keep a jig tied on that's been in rod locker I'll give it a shot of spray but soft plastics fresh from bag I don't anymore. Quote
Todd2 Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 I don't mess with tubes and spray messes anymore. Fish Sticks, goes on like Chap Stick. I've seen the bite pick up after applying so I'm a believer. YMMV Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted November 9, 2019 Super User Posted November 9, 2019 BANG Garlic , Pro Cure & Kick'n Bass are a few more to consider ... Quote
