Derek1 Posted September 25, 2019 Posted September 25, 2019 Or does anyone else have a hard time putting a Ned bait on. So frustrating. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted September 25, 2019 Super User Posted September 25, 2019 There is a technique to it. Place the bait up next to the Ned-head, thumbnail just past where the hook starts to bend over...that's your mark for the hook-point to exit. You need to have part of the curve of the hook in the bait for it to lay properly. 1 Quote
Derek1 Posted September 25, 2019 Author Posted September 25, 2019 Yeah, I try just can’t get it straight. They don’t wanna stay up on the keeper. I’ve only used them a few times. Elaztec is a little difficult. 1 Quote

You have to force it up a bit more and pinch over the keeper so that the keeper grabs the bait in such a way that when it slides back that fraction of an inch, it's now not 'bunched up' against the head. The Bassman Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 I pull rather than push them on. Pushing makes the bait roll over itself. For all their other shortcomings 'Shroom heads have the easiest keeper. Most others you have to pull down hard over it to even remotely get it to grab the bait. Ratchet type keepers such as Berkley half heads don't hold well at all for me. A drop of super glue, as stated will in fact keep a bait in place a long time. Quote
Derek1 Posted September 26, 2019 Author Posted September 26, 2019 Thanks for all the tips everyone. Pulling makes sense, glue is a definite. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted September 26, 2019 Super User Posted September 26, 2019 It will be easier for you if you get heads without a keeper and just use super glue gel. My Midweat Finesse mold came with keeper slots I filled them with silicone. I have had TRDs last 2 days without any reglueing. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 26, 2019 Global Moderator Posted September 26, 2019 Push the bait up past the keeper, then push the bait down forcefully past each side of the keeper until you feel a "pop". The bait is rigged and won't go anywhere at that point unless you remove it. Glue ruins the bait from being removed and reused or easily changing colors/styles and leaving them rigged after a day of fishing is a sure way to ruin the hook due to the salt content in the bait. I haven't carried glue for them in a couple years, rigging isn't difficult and the baits don't go anywhere with the keepers on the heads I pour. Quote
