Super User A-Jay Posted September 1, 2019 Super User Posted September 1, 2019 During August 2019 Humminbird published the latest software updates for the G3N - several models are included in this one. Find your specific model here . . . https://www.humminbird.com/support/software-updates ***Don't forget to remove any & all SD cards and "Restore Defaults" prior to adding an update. Complete & Easy to follow instructions are included on the updated software page For my recently purchased Helix 10 this update is addresses the following: New Features: LiveShare ZeroLine Support (GPS Models Only) - Multiple shoreline sources can now be individually selected in the AutoChart Live menu for use with AutoChart Live data including: “AutoChart PC” shorelines, new and improved AutoChart “LiveShare” shorelines, or “Zero Line SD Card” shorelines. Choose the one that works best for your lake or let the system automatically select based on the data that is available on-screen. Imaging Water Column Sensitivity (Imaging Models Only) – SwitchFire on Side Imaging and Down Imaging has been changed to Water Column Sensitivity. This feature allows the user to increase or decrease the sensitivity of the sonar return that is in the water column. Once this is done, the user can adjust the sensitivity of the entire sonar return with the Sensitivity menu setting. Imaging Contrast Improvements (Imaging Models Only) – Updated the contrast table for Side Imaging and Down Imaging Contrast Built-In MEGA SI+ Support (MEGA SI/MEGA SI+ models only) – New transducer mode that supports the Minn Kota Built-In MEGA SI+ transducer. Ice Mode on HELIX 8, 9, and 10 Models – Humminbird Ice Mode is now available on HELIX 8, 9, and 10 G2N/G3N models. Dynamic Imaging Contrast (Imaging Models Only) – Automatically enhances the contrast of the selected Side Imaging or Down Imaging color palette. New Dynamic Imaging Contrast turned off New Dynamic Imaging Contrast turned on General Fixes: SONAR: Fixed a sonar noise issue at 30 FT deep. Fixed a CHIRP frequency range issue at 130 kHz. Fixed an issue with the SI Enhance menu that was causing Sharpness and Contour Mode to allow invalid menu options. Fixed an issue where DI Contrast was not functional on 455 and 800 kHz on G3/G3N models and 455/800/MEGA on G2/G2N models. Fixed an issue where SI Color Palette could not be changed on the HELIX 7 CHIRP MSI GPS G3. 360 IMAGING: Fixed an issue where deploying the transom mount 360 Imaging would cause 2D, DI, and SI to stop scrolling until the unit was rebooted. Fixed an issue with the sonar cursor on 2D, DI, and SI panes that was being caused by 360 Imaging. i-PILOT LINK: Fixed an issue where Follow-the-Contour would not populate on AutoChart Live data that was being displayed on top of the Humminbird Basemap. CHART: Fixed an issue where heading data from the AS GPS HS would not display in a heading databox. SYSTEM: Fixed an issue where putting a networked unit into Ice Mode would leave the unit is an invalid Open Water Mode / Ice Mode state. Fixed several Bluetooth device pairing issues. A-Jay 1 Quote

Yes ~ and then a sweet little Fairy will decent upon you from the sky and take to a very special place. A place where you will be forced to drink weak Margaritas and reel in Gigantic Green Bass. Both will occur repeatedly but you will love it and ask for more. A-Jay Quote

Super User Further North Posted September 3, 2019 Super User Posted September 3, 2019 So...quick report out: ran the update on my Helix 12 MEGA SI+ G3N today, from my phone, while out on the lake...just because I wanted to see how it worked. We were out of cell range, and no where near any WiFi, and it worked OK. I remain endlessly frustrated by the fact that we have to re-set to factory values coming out of updates...with today's technology, it's absurd that current status can't be stored in a temporary file on the chip, and restored during boot-up...but I digress. It worked, though bluetooth didn't work after the install, I had to tell my iPhone 4 month old XR, so up to date tech) to "forget" the device and re-link it to get it to work right. A PITA, but not the end of the world. ...but here's the kicker: I tried to run the same update on my Helix 12 MEGA DI+ G3N CHO...and no joy. It kept looping through the "transfer" process, and never registered at the unit. I'll get it done, even if I have to load the update on a chip and walk it out there, but this is too complex given today's tech. I'm a pretty technical guy, and I get this stuff...I can see several of my friends giving up and not doing the updates with this level of complexity... ...and that's the kind of thing that feeds negative feedback about the brand. Thank you for the updated feed back and sorry to hear updates went the way they did. I'm NOT a Very Technical guy - might have just enough skills to be dangerous, but I am 100% with you on the need to Restore these units in advance of an every update - PIA constantly setting the units back up again. Mine update seemed to go as planned but I haven't been on the water (hopefully tomorrow) to check for the actual fallout. I will admit that I'm looking forward to checking out what this ones leads to. Hopefully it's net use & not cursing. A-Jay Quote
Super User Further North Posted September 5, 2019 Super User Posted September 5, 2019 Another follow-up: I got the Helix 12 MEGA DI+ G3N CHO to work yesterday...but today, on the water, the front unit failed to recognize the SI and DI from the back transducer, despite being set up that way in the network menu. ...trying to figure out what to do with that... Considering rolling back the update, but I've no idea how to do that. I may try just turning Dynamic Imaging off...but I'm not thrilled about have to burn time on the water for this. Quote

What’d you do to get the update to work? Quote

Nothing complicated, just shut everything off, let it sit for a day and tried again with the boat in my garage. I'm sure if I had done the "normal" way - loading the updates onto a chip - that it would have been fine. Right now my bigger problem is the failure of the front unit to share SI and DI with the back unit...on brand new units... Quote
