5/0 Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 Just watched Glenn’s video on toad baits. He mentioned that there should be grass or vegetation. Could you fish these and have success on banks with no vegetation as an alternative to other top water baits? 2 Quote
jr231 Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 You can... And they do work.. but you should opt for a walking bait like a spook in those conditions IMO. Or a popper. The frog is for the vegetation because it's weedless Quote
5/0 Posted August 30, 2019 Author Posted August 30, 2019 Thank you! I agree about poppers, I was thinking of an alternative to it, something different from what the boater could be using. Quote
YoTone Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 ive had success running my toad parallel to vegetation lines. but yeah ive use toad baits in open waters quite often. Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted August 31, 2019 Super User Posted August 31, 2019 Toads in open water work great. Like a more subtle buzzbait. 1 Quote
Grim_Reaver Posted September 1, 2019 Posted September 1, 2019 Absolutely. Strike King Rage Toad is excellent in open water. 1 Quote
Wizzlebiz Posted September 1, 2019 Posted September 1, 2019 I have found that throwing my frog onto the actual bank and twitching it into the water gets bites. Seems to me it is as natural of a presentation as you can get with it. You dont need vegetation to fish a frog. You just need a frog and a willing fish. 2 Quote
Shimano_1 Posted September 1, 2019 Posted September 1, 2019 It would be effective anywhere bass are active and will eat a topwater Quote
5/0 Posted September 1, 2019 Author Posted September 1, 2019 Thanks all! I’m gonna give it a shot! I don’t have the Rage Toad, but I do have a few Zoom Horny Toads. Gonna rig the on a 4/0 belly weight hook with a screw lock. Quote
