Has the senko replaced the fluke?

I am trying to simplify my tackle selection now days since i fish a lot out of a kayak. I fish mostly aoft plastics and jig/ jig heads of various kinds. Has the senko replaced the fluke for anyone, or do y'all still use both and why?

Perfect 1-2 punch... Start with a 5 inch Caffeine Shad (fluke category only better) on an Owner Twistlock Light 3/32 4/0 hook as your search bait... once you find them slow down and throw the wacky..

Good question. The soft jerks can be fished like a stick-worm, and probably vice-versa, esp a slow wobbling fall. However, the jerks dart better. That's my take.

I have been wanting to pick up a pack of caffine shads, is the fall rate faster and are the tails not as fussy as the zoom flukes (keeping them straight and not kinked?)

You can fish a Senko like a Zoom fluke, but it's about twice the price per plastic.  The GYCB D-Shad is a fluke that's almost the same material as a Senko, but it feels a little stretchier and is more durable.  They weigh more then a Zoom Super and will shimmy on the fall like a Senko.

Flukes are the best for a Donkey Rig.  Sometimes the donkey rig really gets them fired up!

I used to fish both but the Senko out performed the Fluke so much that it got pushed to the side.   The Fluke is still great though.  I only use it on occasion now.

The tail on the Caffeine Shad is what differentiates it from a regular fluke.  It actually has a small air bubble in it.  It has unbelievable action on slack line, swims on its own, changes direction, etc.  Have to use that specific Owner hook though to balance and swim best...

They're kind of similar but pretty different baits in how I fish them. 

 

I very rarely fish a fluke but always have a stickworm rigged up.

I don't really consider one superior to the other, each has a place in my tackle box, and each catch fish when the conditions are right, in short, keep both on hand, never know when something as simple as using a fluke over a senko, or a senko over a fluke will turn on a school to bite...and a bag of soft plastics isn't really that expensive...one thing I will say that I like about a senko as opposed to a fluke is that I've never seen a senko get deformed by the shipping method the way fluke tails can, so they are less work, but a fluke is kind of the poor mans swim bait or jerkbait in my system, and it sure can be a lot of fun when that's what the fish want.

I sometime fish with a senko fast like Fluke and fish Fluke slow like senko. They both catch fish and can use the same setup and hook 4/0. One set up and two bags of plastic, one Fluke one senko, problem solve?

A Senko is a really good Senko, and a decent fluke. THe fluke is an excellent soft JB, and a barely adequate Senko. So no, I haven't replaced one with the other, but I don't fish either often.

The underwater action is great on the caffine shads, I will definitely be grabbing a couple packs to go with the senko

I fish the two in entirely different manners.  The fluke gets ripped and jerked aggressively and erratically on top, and stick worms get the lift-fall near bottom.

I have never caught a fish on a fluke and can count the number of times on one hand that I have tossed one out.

 

That being said, I commonly rip a weightless senko around like a fluke and have good success.

What rod/reel do you fish this with?

I used to fish both extensively and the paddle tail swimbait has replaced both of them as my go to.

Before I had a bone and ligament removed from my wrist I used Medium Extra Fast spinning rods 6-6 to 6-9.  All time favorite rod was a Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth rod 6-9 MXF.  

 

Now I use all baitcasting gear: 6-10 to 7-1 MXF.  I like the XF especially for wacky worms, works fine for Caffeine Shads too although a fast action would work well too.

I fish both baits and actually find that I catch more fish with the Zoom Super Fluke.

As stated above: not fished the same... I fish a stick bait as a Neko rig, where as, I fish a Caffeine Shad as a jerk bait.  I haven't found a better follow-up bait to a missed walking top-water than the 4" Caffeine Shad when I let it flutter several feet through the water column then jerk it back to the surface.

Keitech swimbaits have replaced about 90 percent of my crankbaits
