Need some pond/kayak rods

Hey guys I’m needing some low cost pond hopping rods and reels.. looking for some rods that will cover most pond presentations finese worm, frog, topwater, jig and worm.. and will be goin kayaking as well with these.. dont wanna break out my high end stuff for what I’ll be doing.. as far as the reels they need to be durable I’m really thinking bout the abu garcia black max but haven’t had any dealings with them. Try to keep combos under 100$ if possible.. I bought a lews xfinity combo from walmart and I cant get the reel to cast without backlashing so maybe no combos again.... thanks all

I primarily kayak fish and I see no reason to not bring your good stuff with you. I’d hate to think I’m out fishing with some stuff knowing my good equipment is just sitting at home.

 

I haven’t noticed any damage or wear and tear on either rods or reels. Make sure everything is secure/tied down. Use rod/reel covers if needed during transport.

Seems odd to buy lower end stuff to use while in a kayak.  I buy what  I want to use and use it everywhere and yes, I am a kayak fisherman.  Only wear and tear I see on my gear is from laying it in front of me but that is my fault as I have plenty of rod storage space I just like having it in front of me but it hasn't hurt any of my gear.

I use all my high end stuff in my yak, just keep rod socks, reel covers on them and be careful.

I had the same mentality when I started kayak fishing.  I was afraid I'd lose a rod overboard.  After 7+ years I haven't lost any and don't leash them either.  The only time I use a cheaper rod is on a smaller river because I've come close to breaking them trying to free a snag in current.

I have a couple of the previous generation Berkeley Lighting Shock Rods for the same purpose. (Not sure about the new ones.) I like the short handles as they don't snag my PFD. I use a Pflueger President with the spinning rod and a Diawa Fuego CT with the bait casting rod.

I use my every day gear when using the kayak.  I tether the rods I am not using.  You can add floats to the rods if desired.

Appreciate your input guys I was just thinking of setting up a couple beaters to hit ponds with that way I wouldn’t be dragging my rods in and out of my boat every time I wanna go fishing.. The way I fish is dragging a jon boat or kayak behind a wheeler and fishing ponds, borrow pits, beaver ponds that kinda stuff and I cant put it in my head to use my high end combos maybe thats just me.

I carry 200+ dollar setups in my yak...same stuff gets used while walking the banks.

Lightening Rod Shocks or house brands at BPS/Cabelas/Acafemy should get you what you need. Academy has some solid baitcasters in the range you're looking for. They're not going to be Chronarchs, but they'll get it done. You could also check the *cough* site sponsor *cough* Kastking stuff, although i think the Academy stuff will be as good or better.

Some ambassaduers/ lightning rods could do. But otherwise..dude don’t sweat it. You won’t loose your stuff 

Buy a couple of versatile and good quality setups. Use them to pond hop, and kayak. Enjoy them, take care of them and don’t look back. Have fun. The more you spend (to a point)  will cover all your bases and you’ll be happy. 2 setups should do you... three if you really wanna lug around gear

IMO just take your nice setups.  Ultimately, we don't spend money on a combo only to let it sit on a rod rack while we are out on the water.

I use the same rods whether I'm on the boat, in the kayak, or on the bank. 

 

There are lots web pages directions for making your own rod holders from PVC pipe. I think someone on here recently even had a post and photos of the ones he made.

 

I bought my yak used, and one of the things it came with was a crate and rod holders. Since there are low hanging trees and bridges I travel under, I have to lay the rods down on occasion. I'm more concerned with one falling over board than being scratched or broken. There are plenty of DIY tethers and plenty of in-expensive commercial products. The tethers I use set me back maybe $10 a piece, which is extremely cheap considering my lowest end rod and reel combo is in the $250 range.
