My neighbor offered me a 12 foot alumacraft in pristine conditon.  It comes with...

-a 9.9 Mercury outboard 2 stroke with 30 hours of run time.

- A minn kota 55lb thrust trolling motor with 12 hours of run time.

- a trailer with a new axle that is registered and in pristine condition .

- the boat, trailer and engine are all his, he is the original owner, has all the paperwork and has stored it in his climate controlled garage for the 5 years he has owned it.

- it also comes with anchors, 2 adjustable seats, a small 15 gallon livewell with aerator(he used it for bait), oars, life jackets and 2 new deep cycle batteries.

This seems like a fair shake to me but I was wondering yinz opinions?

Edit - forgot the price!  1500 dollars.

^^X2... Now  @JediAmoeba since you did say your neighbor “offered” you the boat ‘cause you’re a great guy and all-around sportsman, heck yeah, go for it! Without seeing pictures, sounds like all you need to do is add water. In all seriousness, is it reasonably priced?

The price is 1500.  He told me he thinks he could get 2300+ out of it.

If you’re in a market for a boat, and this one fills your bill, heck of a deal IMO. By the way, you might want to ask how’s the tires and wheel bearings...

The tires look great and the bearings were just greased up - I wasn't in the market for a boat but this seems like a bargain, but I could be wrong.

12 foot aluminum boats are, in my opinion, "tippy".  I've never felt real comfortable fishing out of one, and it has been a while.  I was not as fat, generally in better shape, and I felt that I always had to be aware of my balance.

Anyway, I'd take it out once or twice, just to see how it fished, to find out for sure if it had enough room (it doesn't) and if I was ok with that compromise.

Just with the weight that is in the boat (motor, trolling motor, gas, batteries, anchors, etc) I wonder if all that plus you exceeds the weight limit of the boat.

I'd be very careful where I went with that boat.  I can see not paying attention and catching someone else's wake from the rear corner and it might flip or swamp.

as stated above ... 12ft jon boats are tippy ...seen someone fall out of one ... would wear a life jacket at all times ...

Lund is a very good quality boat and sounds like the outboard engine alone is worth $1,500. Offer to take it out for a ride before buying it. The price is good!

Sounds like a steal to me. With a little common sense and avoiding rough water theres nothing unsafe about them either. If it fits ur needs I'd jump on it. Could always probably make a little money on it if you didnt like it or wanted to upgrade

Fair deal for both sides, I think 2300 plus is a reach.

If you take care of it, it will be worth 1500 dollars for many years. Go for it.

Alluding to HenryPF's post above, For BIG water it's not a terrific choice but for smaller water, assuming it's as sweet as you describe it, it sounds like an outstanding deal.

Sounds like a steal. You could easily move it on for that price if you didn't like it or part it out and still be ahead of the game.
