This^^^^ One exception I make is I use a St Croix Mojo Medium Heavy 7' with a MODERATE FAST tip with a Tatula SV 8 to 1 ratio. That tip allows the bass to fight without tearing off and the backbone insures a good hookset while keeping the big girls from running off with my bait. I use 14lb Cajun Line. I can easily cast a 1/4oz popper all the way up to 3/4 walking bait with that one setup. Quote
Drew03cmc Posted June 23, 2019 Author Posted June 23, 2019 The rod I've been using is a M baitcaster with 8 or 10lb test copoly. Quote

Super User Sam Posted June 23, 2019 Super User Posted June 23, 2019 I have two of the Megabass Pop X's but don't use them as they are so pretty that I don't want to take the chance on losing either. Actually, I did use them years ago but they never produced like my buzzbaits, RICO's and Zell Roland poppers. I put them in a tackle box to take with me to my double secret pond to give them another whack later this week, if possible. I will let you know what happens. Quote

I'd like to try the Ricos and Splash Its, but for now, I'm pleased with my Pop Xs. Quote

Get a couple of colors of SplashIt's and when your bass are short striking your Pop X go to the Splash It. Often times just a subtle change in sound and presentation as all that's needed to trigger an awesome topwater bite that otherwise would leave you frustrated due to all the short strikes and boils that produce nothing. I have learned from many hours of use that the Splash It is easier to walk and has superior components to the Rico. However, on some days the Rico works better. It tends to sit a little higher in the water and produces a different splash than the Splash It. But my go-to is the Splash It. It just flat out catches them when other poppers just produce short strikes. Quote

Same with my PopMax. Beautiful bait but Sunfish in my area loved the tail too much. My favorite Popper right now is the Yozuri 3DB prism popper. I throw it on a 7’ MH fast action baitcasting setup. The only popper I throw on spinning gear is a tiny Rebel Pop-R that came in a Rebel Critter kit I bought. It’s great for fishing the canal in my area. Sunfish and Pickerel magnet. 1 1 Quote
