bassheel Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 Yes I'm trying to compare apples to oranges here but I wanted some thoughts on this. Are the low end slx reels as, better or not as good as the old green curado 200b's new? Times has changed and technology has grew leaps and bounds since the green tanks we released. Thoughts Quote
billonaboat Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 i'd like to know the same kind of thing on the spinning front.. are the new sahara's (seeing as they have x ship and hagane) as good as a stradic from say 5-6 years ago? Quote

Not as good but very close. Close enough you could say Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted April 19, 2019 Global Moderator Posted April 19, 2019 Reels are one of the most personalized fishing components we buy. Gotta fit right, hold enough line for what we want to do, strong enough drag, balance the combo, size and shape of the handle, ipt, casting distance, smoothness, etc etc Now we gotta decide if we want a computer chip, certain bearing count, where the bearings are, what the frame is made of, overall weight, and yes..there are some who must have a specific color!! To me there is no better reel made by anyone than the old green Curado "E" without all the new technology. Just because today's reels are supposed to be cutting edge, doesn't necessarily make them better. Mike 1 Quote
OnthePotomac Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 First, would you define the "low end six reels" you referred to. With regard to the Sahara I will find out how it goes next week with a new Sahara 3000XG. I have the Curado 100 B,Curado 50E, Curado 200E7, Citica 200E Curado 70, Curado 200I, Curado 200K Chronarch 150 and a Chronarch MGL and each are incredible reels in their own category. I have never even considered the Citica 200 E a low end reel ( but I confess I have it pretty spiffed up now). 1 Quote
Super User JustJames Posted April 20, 2019 Super User Posted April 20, 2019 If you compare to the “B” series, I think I will take SLX any day. Compare to D and E series this is different story. SLX is not gonna be as smooth as D or E even curado 70 can’t come close to that department, replaceable yes, better I’m not sure. There are something about made in Japan where made in elsewhere cannot compare. Will I pay for an E at hefty price? No way in hell. Quote
Fairtax4me Posted April 20, 2019 Posted April 20, 2019 I like the SLX but I don’t think it compares to the old Curados. It’s still an entry level reel. Not to say they cut corners, but they had to cut corners somewhere to get that reel built to sell for $100. That said, I’m buying another one soon. And when they wear out I’ll probably buy some more. mrpao Posted April 20, 2019 Posted April 20, 2019 Ah. The early days of the curado. I never had one of those red ones. I did have the citica and coriolis. Same frame style. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted April 20, 2019 Super User Posted April 20, 2019 I had the B and BSF, both fantastic. I think, for me at least, it was the design and smoothness that made them popular. I still see a lot of these old reels in use, far more than any other. I can't say much about the long term use of the SLX but it looks to be a home run for Shimano at $100. With that said, I think if I had to choose, my heart says Curado B but my brain says SLX. Quote

OnthePotomac Posted April 21, 2019 Posted April 21, 2019 The TT organization has given the Shimano SLX an excellent rating for the price. Quote
