EWREX Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 Looking for a decent line spooling mechanism for casting and spinning reels. does anyone have any good reccomendations? Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted March 11, 2019 Super User Posted March 11, 2019 The one thing I hate about "spooling stations" is that most of the good ones require you to take the reel off the rod. Those that do not are somewhat awkward. So, I use a Rapala de-spooler (looks like an electric toothbrush that you feed your line through and it is battery driven) and to spool up I use what is in the pic I posted. As I have said many times, it doesn't matter how I spool them up, I always walk the line off in my driveway/yard/street and rewind it back onto the spool. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 11, 2019 Super User Posted March 11, 2019 Haven't used a electric line remover in a long time, don't remember where I put it! Removing line is easy just pull it off manually, no batteries required. Spooling line is also easy just make sure with spinning reels the filler spool line is comming off the bottom as the spool spins on a axial like a wheel. Baitcasting reels the line should come off the top of the spool; bottom spinning, top baitcasting. There are a few spool holder that hold a single spool and apply light tension to prevent over spinning the filler spool, check TW. The P-Line device looks similar what I made years ago and works good. I run the line thru all the rod guides and run the line very lightly between my fingers to control and feel the line. Tom 1 Quote
junyer357 Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 Trick i learned to quickly unspool a reel is to take a empty tp roll and stick it over a cordless drill chuck. Cut a small slit in opposite end of roll to stick line in to get started. Open bail and pull drill trigger. Ive got a suction cup spooler that works for respooling standard 200yd spools, but wont fit my 1000yd spools of bulk line. I usually just stick to a pencil between my knees. 1 Quote

J.Vincent Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 When spooling new line on baitcasters, the Berkley Mini Spooler is my product of choice. Simple and sweet and easy to stow away; this is a product which works at home or on the go. The mini spooler has been compatible with every Medium, Medium Heavy and Heavy Bass Rod I’ve tried and also works with 1/4 lb spools or filler spools. Just spend some time dialing in the tension correctly prior to spooling ! Quote

Jcj90 Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 Spooling spinning reels filler spool goes on floor and make sure line comes off the filler spool counter clockwise. Casting reels I have someone hold the spool on a pencil and make sure line comes off the top of spool. Its that simple Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted March 12, 2019 Super User Posted March 12, 2019 I just put the spool on a pencil and then run the line through the pages of a book. If I need more tension I stack more books on the pile. Quote
OnthePotomac Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Didn't we just finish a huge line spooling thread last week? 1 Quote
