Fishing new lake on foot

Hey everyone I’m fishing a new lake tomorrow on foot and wanted to know if anyone has any advice as to what to look  for bass activity or signs that it’s a good lake for bass fishing. Thanks y’all!

   Sorry. Can't help you. I'm up North. My idea of bass fishing on foot today would involve walking out onto 8-12" of ice and drilling holes. Can you spell e-n-v-i-o-u-s or j-e-a-l-o-u-s?  ??  ??  jj

Southwest Florida in February? Hummmmm.

Water temperature? Hummmmmm.

Water clarity?  Hummmmmmm.

Any wind? Hummmmmm.

Sunny or cloudy day? Hummmmmmm.

Cold front passed through area? Hummmmm?

Any wood or grass that can be seen from the bank? Hummmmmm?

Openings to cast without brush and trees in the way? Hummmmm?

Do you have a map of the lake? Hummmmmm?

 

Overall, you are in Florida and the fishing is always good.

Check water temperature to note if they are 1) headed to spawning grounds; 2) are in the spawn: or 3) spawn is winding down.

Look for rocks, wood, blow downs, brush, grass, pads, and anything in the water by itself.

Then start experimenting with your moving baits and plastics.

Watch out for gators and snakes and have a good time.

I bank fish waters in S Florida all the time. Some have lots of big hungry bass, and some have just a few scattered dinks.  Almost all have some bass. No matter how clear or muddy, you don't know if a pond is good till you've tried the area a few times with a few different techniques. Concentrate on shorelines and shoreline vegetation, sticks, pipes, points, walls, bridges; and rocks, narrowed areas, presence of birds, and wind currents. But don't ignore offshore areas. Always fish around culverts -- they almost always hold a few bass. You'll do better with mono or FC in most situations, if vegetation is not very heavy.  And if it's a pond that nobody ever fishes, that's usually a big plus.

I fish from the bank at least 4 days a week.  One thing I will suggest is wear a good pair of leather boots.  I have been within 5 feet of snakes countless times, I have had a water snake go between my legs once and shocked the hell out of me.  I not only find snakes in the glades, but in communities like Weston, and Davie.  I'm not afraid of snakes, but know there in the area, and some are poisonous.  Never fish with flip flops, or sandals in Florida.

Those are the best ones.  I used to fish a golf course pond some years back.  The old man was tight with the former owner so I was given permission to fish.  Those were some of the biggest largemouth I ever caught, and I'd always hammer them any time I went.  I like to think I was the only sort of fishing pressure on that pond outside of the herons and other critters.
