Fish don't wear jackets or coats. They are like every other animal in the wild. They still need to eat to survive. Finding a pattern on the other hand is a bit different. 1 Quote

Cold for me is below 30 because that's when guides start to ice up and make fishing difficult. If it's not too windy I can deal with that, I've fished in single digits more than once when the wind wasn't blowing and it's not bad. Toss in a 15mph wind though, I'll probably just sit in my shop and make baits instead. 3 Quote

When summer rolls around, they head out to the bigger lakes and that's when I fish other species. I've been out in the streams in below freezing temps many times, even a few this year. When the ice fishermen are all hunched over a bucket in their shanties, I'm enjoying solitude on the river. Quote

Super User MassYak85 Posted February 22, 2019 Super User Posted February 22, 2019 Other than ice fishing I will fish open water as long as my guides don't freeze and it's not too windy. 30's and windy is just cold unless there's some sun, and since I fish out of a kayak it gets frustrating trying to fish slowly in cold water when the wind is blowing you around everywhere.
