billmac Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 I have always wondered how much other fish species plague bass tournament fishermen? It seems like a lot of largemouth waters would also be pike waters and often walleye and smallmouth often favor similar conditions, and that's just up north where I am. Quote

Here in Kansas the catfish is king and they get huge. Freshwater drum brings up a close second. Flathead catfish in particular are very fond of crankbaits. Can't count the number of flatheads over 10 pounds I have caught bass fishing. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 17, 2019 Global Moderator Posted February 17, 2019 Catfish, drum, and white bass are the worst here. Catfish and drum usually fool me into thinking I've got a good bass for a few seconds until I start to feel the fight. White bass are so aggressive that when they're really biting it can be hard to catch anything else at times. Quote

Jleebesaw Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Catching walleye while bass fishing is always a nice treat. Weigh the bass and eat the eyes. I saw a you tube video by jacob wheeler where he was keeping walleyes during an elite series event on the st lawrence. Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted March 15, 2019 Super User Posted March 15, 2019 One species my buddy and I have had caught a goodly number of is Bowfin. On one occasion we caught as many bowfin as bass. I didn't mind because they fight so well (and we don't keep bass anyway) but my buddy was somewhat displeased. 1 Quote
The Bassman Posted March 17, 2019 Posted March 17, 2019 I foul hooked a good sized carp the other day. I just make believed I was at my buddys' in Fla. fighting reds. It's all fun. Quote
Brew City Bass Posted March 26, 2019 Posted March 26, 2019 Pike are the bane of my existence when tournament fishing. Last year I recall fishing one tourney in particular where it was last hour and I knew nobody else was catching anything so I was trying HARD to find a keeper. Right before I was about to pull the trolling motor and make the run back I got SMACKED and was thinking it was the winning fish on the line. After a minute fight it came to the top and was a 35" pike. I was so ticked. Some days I catch more pike than bass.. Better than catching nothing I suppose? Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted March 26, 2019 Super User Posted March 26, 2019 Since I fish a Senko a majority of the time, anything that swims will bite it. I literally have caught almost all species of fish that swim in the Potomac on a Senko including Bluefish and Redfish and Flounder when the salt line is up. Quote
