Kansas winter bass fishing

Any recommendations on bass fishing in Kansas in mid February ?  It’s been cold temps in the 20s and 30s .  I have been working a jig slow but not getting any bites .  Any recommendations on baits this time a year ?

I honestly don't catch many winter bass on a jig around here. For me it does better in spring and summer.

most of the fish I catch in cold water come on the following.

slow rolling a a single blade spinnerbait. 

a suspending jerkbait.

jigging a lipless crankbait.

ned rig worked slow.

dragging a trick worm with a shakyhead.

I am trying to use jigs more because I haven’t ever used them much before .  My confidence bait is a Texas rig and of course the ned rig .  I have always been told that working jigs like a Texas rig are the way to go in the winter .

Ned, shaky and Arig are my go to baits in the winter.  A rig and shaky have been most productive lately.

Depends on the jig for me. I go finesse jig and small chunk trailer. That doesn’t work, jerkbait or trick worm ?

Last Monday found 42* water and surprisingly most fish were caught on 4.8" swimbaits and crankbaits... no jerkbait fish at all, weird. Now have to wait for it to thaw again. lol

If you're confident in a Ned, I'd fish that. A jerkbait and Ned are 2 of the best winter time baits for me. If you have enough water, a Shad rap or lipless crankbait slow rolled can be good too.

Went out yesterday in our neighbood pond and couldn’t get anything going with a jig but put on the ned rig and fished it realy slow and pulled out a 2 pound bass .  First fish of the year !!

lot of ways to fish a texas rig... only one way to fish a jig in the winter... slow. very slow.

Congrats on the bass and the open water. Everything is locked up here minus the power plant lakes.

I'm hoping with this cold and wet winter that when it does start getting warmer, the bite will be really good!!

if nothing else, the lakes should all be full.

the power plants are always available if you get the itch.

This is the first normal winter we've had in several years it seems like where we had snow and cold instead of extended periods of warm weather. I really think the lakes benefit from the cold and being frozen over to allow the sediment to settle and the fish to catch a break from the angling pressure. I've noticed a couple normally fairly clear lakes have been much dirtier than normal with the last few warm winters when they didn't freeze over at all. We'll see if this helps. I did see that the extreme cold has supposedly killed off a large number of bad bugs, so here's hoping that's true.
