deadadrift89 Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 What cutter do you use for braided line? I'd prefer something that doesn't require putting tension on line when using. Mostly using 15-20# braid and tired of frayed ends on setups when using leaders Thanks Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted February 9, 2019 Super User Posted February 9, 2019 I use scissors from the sewing department at Wal-Mart. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 9, 2019 Super User Posted February 9, 2019 Nothing special for me, nail clippers work just fine. Quote

ike8120 Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 I bought Cuda 3" mono and braid scissors https://www.cudabrand.com/products/scissors-shears/cuda-3-titanium-bonded-micro-scissors.html Quote
tander Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 Bass Pro sells their brand of split rings pliers which has a cutter. Never found anything better and cheap. Quote
nascar2428 Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 Been using Fiskars scissors for years. You can find them in the school supply area of your local store. 2 Quote
pauldconyers Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 Boomerang worked fine for a bit but got dull quick and I have got to hold the line with a lot of tension to get it to cut. Hardly ever a clean cut. Anyone tried those Cuda's? Quote

Brad Reid Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 The first trick with a Boomerang is to note that the blades are offset, not centered in the plastic grip. I think you can see it in the attachment. So, be certain to have the blades near the point where you want to make the clean cut. This means "inside" and not held away from you and the knot. It makes a difference how you hold the clippers in relation to the knot. The second trick is to push the line way back deep into the jaws of the little device, not mid-way or out toward the tip. Super User Choporoz Posted February 9, 2019 Super User Posted February 9, 2019 Good advice, @Brad Reid. One more trick that makes the Boomerangs last longer is cut flouro and mono near the tips, and only cut braid back deep in the jaws. I find flouro dulls them faster than braid. 2 Quote

Super User WRB Posted February 9, 2019 Super User Posted February 9, 2019 The problem with scissors is braid fibers tend to slide between the blades and dull the cutting edges. Boomarange should be dedicated to braid only and use simple line clippers for mono & FC, it last a very long time. Tom 2 Quote
fin Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 Westcott 5" scissors from Walmart. Never cut paper with them, I never cut anything but line with them. They are super sharp and have held an edge for years. Only a few bucks. They give a clean cut, no fraying, but I still hold a lighter to where I trimmed the line for a leader knot, which prevents any future fraying. Quote

Super User NYWayfarer Posted February 10, 2019 Super User Posted February 10, 2019 Kastking braid scissors. They are super sharp. They come with a belt clip sheath and lanyard. Handle has a spot to attach a keyring bungee and carabiner. Quote

Sheepdog Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 There is a KVD model of split ring plier/braid cutter out there that cut braid like butter. They have a red handle, and they look similar to the Mustad brand "braid cutters with split ring pliers" on TW that have the blue handle. I would guess those would be the same or at least work as well. I picked mine up at Walmart. They are pretty cheap, and make decent split ring pliers. I use mine for cutting all my light braid(16 lb.) to flouro leader connections for dropshot, etc. They work like a champion. I use Rapala clippers(just like finger nail clippers) for all my flouro and mono cutting. 16 hours ago, ike8120 said: I bought Cuda 3" mono and braid scissors https://www.cudabrand.com/products/scissors-shears/cuda-3-titanium-bonded-micro-scissors.html I've been curios about these ones. Haven't picked any up yet, but they are a couple bucks cheaper on TW, FYI. Quote
