Pikeman12 Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 Hey guys, Getting real cabin fever lately so I’m gonna get a low profile baitcaster. I’m looking for one that I’m gonna be using for frogging and live bait presentations, so using about 50 or 60 lb braid, and putting it on a medium heavy. Hoping to get it under 100$ but I’ll go to 130$. I’d also like it to have a good amount of drag. Hope everyone is staying warm and if not I hope you’re at least catching fish in this cold! Thanks guys, tight lines! Quote
Super User FishTank Posted February 8, 2019 Super User Posted February 8, 2019 Maybe a little more than your budget but the Revo STX can be had on Amazon for $150 or they have the SX that is under your budget. 1 Quote
CrankFate Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 If you want heavy applications I would also recommend a revo (there are many revos that will work), they have a multi disc drag stack. The carbon matrix washers are probably adequate, but an upgrade to all carbontex with cals grease will get you a lot more drag. Quote
GeekOutdoors Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 I'm using a KK Royale Legend Elite and love it. Been replaced by the Megajaws that has a better brake system. You can Buy two of them with your budget ... 1 Quote

TBAG Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 Yeah, Fuego CT is a good option for way under your budget. Or.......you can buy Curado K's all over the bay for right at $130, you just have to look around. Quote

Super User dodgeguy Posted February 9, 2019 Super User Posted February 9, 2019 Lew's LFS $99. Or the MB. Can't beat either. 2 Quote

That seems unbelievable, prove me wrong so I can buy one XD I've fished ~$100 dollar reels for years. Tatula CT for sure, better than the Lews MB. But look around ebay and you could be surprised at what you can find. 1 Quote
fvogel67 Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 Tackletour has just done a review on the new Shimano SLX Quote
FCPhil Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 Tatula CT!!! Could not be more impressed with the one I purchased. Quote
Allen Der Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 abu silvermax with the flipping switch (they call it rocket clutch) nice to have for the live baiting Quote
kschultz76 Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 Way under your budget a Fuego CT. A bit better and in your budget any Tatula CT variant. 1 Quote
SMITTY0045 Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 I’d look at the Revo S, it’s in your budget at full price and it should be cheaper on amazon. I had last generations Revo S and the new Generation Revo SX and both are great. For trying to keep it around $130 I think the Revo S is the way to go Quote
newyorktoiowa57 Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 New Shimano SLX can be had for $70 on the bay at times, Curado K for around $135. Quote

ratherbfishin1 Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 I would recomend a used lews tournament pro or super duty (as long as you aren’t against a used reel) 1 Quote
Pikeman12 Posted February 10, 2019 Author Posted February 10, 2019 Hey thanks for all the feedback guys, sorry I was traveling and couldn't respond. I am going to bass pro today. After looking at the specs of the Fuego, it seems like the perfect reel for what I'm doing. Just gonna see if its comfortable in my hands. I even put my shimano cardiff 401a reel on my medium heavy bass rod just to see what it would feel like lol. Seems like I haven't seen one bad review on the fuego tho. Quote

The XH's sell better and are generally 20-$30 higher. https://www.ozarksource.com/daiwa-tatula-sv-tws-bcast-reel-7-2crbb-1.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&adpos=1o2&scid=scplp450421&sc_intid=450421&gclid=CjwKCAiAqaTjBRAdEiwAOdx9xqx106VVZa4rYviJhGUg3HzlaU0Xr55Wg7yWGAO0E-q5vNeyfg1Z-RoCSzUQAv Quote
FCPhil Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 Tatula CT. $30 is worth how good of a reel it is in my opinion. Edit: look on ebay for a good deal on it. 1 Quote
