I'm looking for a 2 piece travel rod. Something I can keep in the car and take on a plane. I'm thinking of the Damiki Angel EX spinner, $79.99. Anyone have any suggestions?

I doubt there's a 2-pc that you can take on a plane. And by "on the plane", I mean in the overhead. Don't ever let the baggage gorillas get to it! I think ... not 100% sure, but I think ... that you'll need a 3-or-more-pc for the plane. If I'm wrong about that, then the Damiki is hard to beat. The guides are first-rate, the joint is first-rate, and the reel seat is  too. Which one are you looking at?     jj

If you are going to take a two-piece with with you on a plane, make sure you stow it after the heavy carry on baggage’s have been put away or it will get crushed.

Also, if you’re traveling out of the country, CHECK your carrier’s policy for the return DO NOT ASSUME that the policy is converse.

For example, Alaska Airlines allows rods as carry on from the US to Mexico. However, their policy from Mexico back to the US does not. You have to put it in your non carry on baggage and let me tell you most standard type luggage are not long enough to accommodate a 6’6” rod in two pieces.

I lost a 2-piece rod because of this. Fortunately, I was able to give it to a sisters-in-law but unfortunately she lost it, lol.

True travel rods with airplanes in mind will be more than two pieces to fit in the luggage.

Where will you buy the damiki?

Damiki Angel EX Med spinner, $79.99. Are there any issues with having the attendants store it in the hanging closet on the plane?

Tackle Warehouse is where I found the Damiki. I'm part of Team Elysian though and may get a custom from them but the thought of losing that one worries me...

The alternative would be to ship it to destination in Florida....

I think so, if you ask. If that isn’t possible, you be able to store it partially under the seat in front of you and your seat in the same day you can stow a small bag under the seat in front of you. I did that once but I also didn’t check with the flight attendant.

Since you’re staying domestic, you should be alright for to and from air travel. One thing you can do is use some pipe insulation to protect the top half of the rod and join the two with some Velcro. Yeah, it’s nerdy, but it’s practical for any scenario that doesn’t involve a real case, lol.

Thanks for the word on TW.

If you're NOT going outside the US, then by all means do it this way. Much less hassle. My advice is send it USPS, not UPS. Talk to some snowbirds where you live. They'll give you good practical advice on which way to go.    jj

I know it is an investment, but I have two G. Loomis 3 piece Escape series rods, I bought them mainly because the pvc rod tube they come with fits inside the largest standard size suitcase (on the diagonal). So when I travel with my rods I can fit them safely inside my suitcase. in an indistructable crush proof tube. Plus they are awesome rods to boot :)

I just have to hope my suitcase doesn't get lost.
