pauldconyers Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 Bought some 2/0 trailer hooks for spinnerbaits and the plastic tubing that comes with it is the kind that hold the trailer hook in place. I want the type that will allow that hook to be free swinging. Can I buy a sort of keeper like that? Who sells trailer hooks that work like this right out of the pack? Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted January 7, 2019 Super User Posted January 7, 2019 Put the hook on and then the tube or keeper. I hole punch "keepers" from Planter's Peanuts or Cafe Bustelo lids. Cause they go well with beer, and I like strong coffee respectively 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted January 7, 2019 Super User Posted January 7, 2019 I punch out keeper disc from a piece of inner tube . 1 Quote

I cut a length of 700c tube ( the ultra light presta valve butyl ones) and make "custom" grip covers. I also slide a short section over the threads on the reel seat. Of course I've been using tennis over grip on my fishing handles for over 20 years. Stainless spokes are the best large spinnerbait/buzzbait wire, and tandem brake cables work well for shark rigs. Guess what I do for a living.... 1 Quote
bagofdonuts Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 you can use the tubing that came with it. just cut them in half, slide trailer hook on, then the piece of tubing over the barb. 2 Quote
RichF Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 Cut the little nob off the back of these suckers. Best trailer hook keeper I've used. If you don't wanna order online, you can find them at Michaels craft stores. https://www.amazon.com/Silicone-Earring-Safety-Hypoallergenic-Yalis/dp/B07BBN671P/ref=sr_1_9?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1546891267&sr=1-9&keywords=earring+backs Quote

Super User Crestliner2008 Posted January 8, 2019 Super User Posted January 8, 2019 I figured this out 30 years ago or more. Just get yourself a paper punch and a plastic coffee lid. Punch out a bunch of small circles and force the main hook through the center of one - after you put the trailer on obviously! 1 Quote
