Super User Sam Posted January 4, 2019 Super User Posted January 4, 2019 Hey guys and gals, let's all chime in on who you pick to win the College Football National Championship between Alabama and Clemson and why. I pick Alabama based on their quarterback and team speed. Clemson has a freshman quarterback, and although he can really throw that football, he does not have the experience of reading defenses and making changes at the line. And Coach Saban and his defensive staff do an outstanding job of hiding defenses and making last minute changes to confuse their opponent. If you want, you can also pick the winner between Eastern Washington and North Dakota State. I have no idea about either team. This one should be a good game, too. So I will pick North Dakota State. You say what???????? Quote

Super User Sam Posted January 5, 2019 Author Super User Posted January 5, 2019 22 minutes ago, Catt said: Defenses win championships! ? Yes. And that is why Bama will win as they will create havoc for Clemson's freshman quarterback. I will agree that this kid will be a first round draft choice in the future but for now he is still learning how to read defenses. I don't think Clemson has seen the type of speed Alabama posses on defense. If you think Devin White of LSU is fast, wait until you see the Bama defense. As said many times by my old coaches, it is all about speed. As you move from Pee-Wee to middle school, to high school, to college and then to the pros, it is all about speed. Go to an SEC game and sit about five rows from the field and you will see the speed and force behind each play. And the running backs and defensive players do not slow down when they hit each other. It is full speed ahead. I did this for an LSU-Alabama football game in Tiger Stadium when Mike Shula was the Bama coach (LSU won) and my best friend and I were amazed at the collisions we were witnessing. This is what Clemson will be facing. Should be a fun game to sit back and enjoy. 1 Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted January 5, 2019 Super User Posted January 5, 2019 Hmmmm if it's an evening game I'll watch and pick Alabama....if during the day I'll pick a local lake!! Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 5, 2019 Super User Posted January 5, 2019 @Sam Who you trying to convince about the SEC defensive speed? OU could have, should have, but didn't get it done. Clemson defense doesn't have to totally shut down Bama's offense. I "think" this game will be like the OU game, the winner will have to score on every possession. Quote
greentrout Posted January 5, 2019 Posted January 5, 2019 http://www.espn.com/college-football/statistics/teamratings/_/tab/efficiency To suggest Alabama doesn't have a great defense is laughable ... ask coach O, who I like .... said they tried everything and nothing worked against Bama ... beat us bad in the trenches .... Vegas has Bama as a 2 to 5 pt. favorite .... ROLL TIDE .... Quote

While Clemson is a very talented and very well coached team, the also have played nobody that can mimic an Alabama, LSU, UGA, etc. I honestly am still questioning how good Notre Dame even was. I'm not bad mouthing Clemson but the ACC conference has little competition to even match Clemson. I'd like to see Clemson continue to play better non-conference like they did this year against Texas A&M. Granted it was the first game, Clemson struggled. Quote

Easy on trashing the ACC hoss. They'v hung quite a nice tally of loses on the SEC in the last few years.Out of conference heavyweights?Ga played Austin Peay, UMASS,and Middle Tennessee this season.Virginia smoked South Carolina 28 -0 just the other day. I'm not diminishing the ACC conference as NC State, Syracuse, Miami, etc are good but the SEC is full of top end talent LSU, UGA, Texas A&M, Alabama, Mississippi State, Florida, Kentucky. After Clemson there is a significant decline in talent. Ever since FSUs decline it's been a Clemson walk in the park every year. Do you think Clemson would rather play Auburn, LSU, Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahomas schedules or there own. I bet they are happy with theres. 18 minutes ago, flatcreek said: Easy on trashing the ACC hoss. They'v hung quite a nice tally of loses on the SEC in the last few years.Out of conference heavyweights?Ga played Austin Peay, UMASS,and Middle Tennessee this season.Virginia smoked South Carolina 28 -0 just the other day. BTW I'm not a UGA fan. This is completely unbiased. Many of the analyst even bring up. Clemson is a phenomenal team and can easily compete with the other conferences but they don't have the competition to push them like they did when FSU was a great team. Also you have to remember that Clemson played Furman, Ga Southern on top of the weak ACC schedule. The ACC champsionship game was against Pitt, A 6 LOSS TEAM, who they beat by over 30 points.... How is a 6 loss team a divisional champion in a conference???? Quote
flatcreek Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 Ga Tech boat raced Miss St in the Orange Bowl recently after they were overated all year at No. 1 for 5 weeks, and and beaten Ga twice in the last 5 years.I'm not arguing the the ACC is better than the Sec, but you tend to portray the ACC is a dumpster fire of a football conference, which it ain't.Not many Sec teams have beaten Bama in the last few years either Quote

Clemson is a phenomenal program and many of the other teams within the conference are good teams but by no means elite. While Alabama is slugging it with 11 win UGA in the SEC Championship game, Clemson is playing Pitt with 7 wins who was beaten by Penn State by over 40 points... How is a 7 win team in a conference championship? Not many teams period have beaten Alabama as they continue to win national championships. Quote
flatcreek Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 How does a 7 win team get in a conference championship? Easy, they win their division.Parity in the division allows that.It happens, has happened in other conferences over the years as wll as the Sec.Division teams beat each other up.Sure it's embarrassing but it happens sometimes when conferences are down.Have you not payed attention to the Sec West dominance over the Sec East in recent years? Not like that. That's embarrassing. But look at the overall competition in the SEC (both divisions).Far from what has happened in the ACC in the past few years. The last 25 years, the SEC championship contained 2 ranked teams not a 6 loss team that was blown out multiple times by 30+ points. Have a great weekend! ROLL TIDE and SEC 1 Quote
flatcreek Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 Pitt beat Clemson the year they won the Natty by the way.Since 2013 to 2017 ACC 19 to 13 in head to head football games.Sec won the advantage this year.I enjoy watching all of college football, not just the one's in my area.peace 1 Quote
