When I was a kid I had a lot of places to fish in Northern California. Small river in the back yard. Huge lake. A golf course in which I slated bass with a small brown rooster tail. It was full of vegetation except about a foot on top. Does anybody use these? I fish a 43 acre lake with lots of laydowns and grass that goes out a foot or so.  I’m in such a slump I’m going to try it.

I have some but rarely use them anymore. I prefer the Mepp's Aglia if I'm going to use an inline. They seem to catch better quality fish. A #3 is a good all around size. One of the first lures I really used a lot for bass fishing was a solid red 1/8oz Roostertail though. Caught a little bit of everything with that bait.

Panther Martin makes some of the best in-line spinners on the market. I only use them for trout now but they will catch many fish species.

I have Mepps Aqlias, Black Furys and Comets in my bag - ranging from Size 0 to Size 3. Panfish to Trout to Bass...I've caught it all on them.

Yep. Grew up throwing them on ozark Rivers/creeks. They were candy for the smallmouth in areas with some current.

The 1/4 oz Rooster Tail is a good cold water bass bait, as are other inline spinners. Sure they catch a lot of small fish, but real ones will bite them as well. Don't let the "I can't feel the blade, It doesn't start up all the time" knock of the Rooster Tail dissuade you from it, it's part of the appeal. Sure if they are biting a more aggressive thump, then yeah, that's the way to go with a Mepps, Blue Fox, (or the one that won't be mentioned, so I can keep getting them on the cheap from Ebay), but sometimes just barely moving it is the ticket. I've had them pick them up off the bottom at times.
