Dr. Watson Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 I like the sweet beavers from RI, you should also check in to the pit boss from havoc. I also like the Yamamoto Kreature and Havoc Hawk Hawg. 2 Quote

Mr Twister is still deadly today, 40% of all tournament wins on Toledo Bend were won with a Mr Twister 6" Phenom Worm. I don't say that! The Mag 12 Buzz Worm is a name y'all need to remember! Catt, I somewhat agree with Rick Clunn. Mister Twister worms have been around since what the early 70s? As you point out, they are still very good, and by tournament stats still widely used. Some of the best baits have never really gone out of style. What has improved for us is the way plastics are made these days. Now, they can mold them with so much detail. Last year, my main lake got very low with drought conditions, and thick milfoil bloom in many parts. I went back to my old standby- plastic worms which seemed to come through this cover better. This year, I'm hoping things will be better. I'm wanting to fish more of some of these " modern" creature baits. Many look very good to flip/pitch, or casting. Always trying to learn, and branch out, even after 30 yrs at this.Plastic worm will always be #1 for me, but it's always good to have some alternatives too. Some of the new plastics look amazing. Color, scent, texture etc. 1 Quote

Got that right !!! I do well with baby brush hogs as well, but not so much with brush hogs. I also like zoom z-hogs, which dont seem to have a big following. The only problem I have with them is that I cannot find a hook that fits them properly. 3/0 seems too small, and 4/0 is too big. (The point of the hook is right at the end of it when you try to stick it in ) But its a bass killer! I also like Pit bosses. One bait I have never caught a fish on is christie critters. I also use Zoom speed craws with good results. If zoom lizards count, they are deadly !!!! I dont count plastic worms as creature baits, but They are always in my arsenal. Especially culprits, Mr twister, and producto tournament worms !!! 2 Quote
Super User Catt Posted November 22, 2018 Super User Posted November 22, 2018 @Mobasser I'm a plastics freak...I love em all ? When most anglers think "creature baits", they're thinking Brush Hog or Sweet Beaver style. As mentioned I'll put a lizard & even a craw worm in this category. Liz-zards are considered spring time baits but are deadly year round. Craw worm gave been relegated to jig trailers but are deadly Texas Rigged. 1 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted November 22, 2018 Super User Posted November 22, 2018 RI Beavers created controversy when they came out because of the name and shape. The RI beaver started with 1 size, added the smaller smallie beaver followed by larger the sizes creating a new family of creature baits. They worked! Tom 1 Quote

Way north bass guy Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 I’ve done real well over the years with a Berkley powerbait power hawg, and I’m sure the new maxscent hawg would work awesome as well. I know the power thief and maxscent creature hawg have worked well for me also, but I’d class them as more of a beaver style bait. 1 Quote

And the color names are even more controversial! The guys at Reaction Innovation have a dark sense of humor, no doubt. Dirty Sanchez 1 Quote
Super User whitwolf Posted November 24, 2018 Super User Posted November 24, 2018 I like to fish creature baits. A lot. The last five years I have noticed as the pressure ramps up the R.I. Smallie beaver has outfished most everything else. I tx rig it and throw it on a Siebert Outdoors Zenith shakey head. It's a versatile bait and one that's tied on from the spawn through late Fall. 2 Quote
