Super User burrows Posted November 15, 2018 Super User Posted November 15, 2018 I’m sorry that you’re having to endure such a difficult time. I hope that you’re feeling better very soon. It’s good to have this forum where we can talk about whatever with other friends that love the sport of bass fishing. Never lose hope!!! Take it day by day... 2 Quote

Super User slonezp Posted November 15, 2018 Super User Posted November 15, 2018 Sorry to hear. Best advice I can give it physical therapy. I suffer from loss of motor skills in my left hand and arm as the result of a physical injury. Simply using my left arm and hand has been the best therapy. 1 Quote

Super User Jig Man Posted November 15, 2018 Super User Posted November 15, 2018 I had one 2 years ago. I did not know where my right foot was, my right eye did not move with my left one and my speech was slurred. I did not get to a hospital for 6 hours after it happened as I was at my farm alone when it happened. I was taken to a hospital where they diagnosed it and on the second day told me I could go home with a walker. I refused to leave so they transferred me to a rehab hospital. I was there for 9 days getting physical, speech, and occupational therapy. I only had rehab 3 hours a day so I had lots of time to work on my own. I asked the therapist for specific exercises for my eye control and leg control. I worked on them for most of the day when not in rehab. They would not let me get out of a wheel chair when I was alone. The thing that worked for my right leg was to focus on a spot where 4 floor tiles came together and lift my foot and try to "stomp" that spot. At first I'd miss it by as much as 12-15 inches. After many hours and several days I could hit every time. When I told the therapist, she gave me a tennis ball and told me to roll it around under my foot, lift my foot and then put it back on the ball before it rolled away. That took a lot of work but I got to where I could do it. Awareness of the location of the foot came back. I am still working on balance with a bosu ball but can stand on the deck of my boat and run the trolling motor as long as I can lean against a butt seat. My speech and eye movement are normal now. Good luck to you on your road to discovering what your new normal is. I might add they said they did not know the cause so I was told it could have been caused by: alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, or wheat. So I had to give up all of those. I still drink some coffee but only 1/2 caff. In the process of giving up wheat in now don't have carpal tunnel syndrome in my left wrist which was scheduled for surgery. 2 1 Quote

I had arthritic hips, knees and left foot. It was the worst in the middle of the night, I would wake up and my knees would be killing me. After starting the cbd oil, it took a couple days, and no more pain. I sleep thru the night, often I don't even get up to go pee. I'm so glad i started taking it. 4 Quote
BASS302 Posted November 17, 2018 Posted November 17, 2018 @Maxximus Redneckus, I had a stroke about 5 years ago. Was in acute therapy for 10 days relearning how to stand up, then relearning how to walk. Also had to relearn how to use my left arm and hand. Had to do three months of out-patient PT and OT, some of which I had to pay for myself because insurance wouldn't cover it. Couldn't drive for 3-4 months. The Therapists will teach you exercises to work on at home. This was a full-time job. If people visit you, ask them to do the exercises with you, or go for a walk with you. Don't let them waste your recovery time. Most of my recovery was during the first 6 months, then it slows down (but still continues to this day). Activities the therapist had me do for motor skills: 1) Work on finger strength using something called theraputty. Basically moving the putty around using just your fingers. 2) Putting pegs in a peg board. 3) Screwing nuts on to bolts. 4) Typing. Fishing activities that I thought would help work on arm and hand skills: 1) I turned the handle on a spinning reel a little bit every day. 2) I practiced tying knots! It takes patience, but start with simple knots. I still have trouble tying knots. Good luck with your recovery. 2 Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted November 18, 2018 BassResource.com Administrator Posted November 18, 2018 I don't have advice to offer, only support. You've been here so long, you're like family. Hoping for the best recovery possible. You can do this! 1 Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted November 19, 2018 Super User Posted November 19, 2018 I'm sorry to hear. I don't really have any advice other than follow through with PT. I've heard enough stories where with enough repetition, people will recover their coordination after a stroke. 1 Quote
shootermcbob Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 The best advice given is to complete( ATTACK) physical, occupational, and speech therapy as soon as possible...which you are doing. the more time you devote, the more complete your recovery can be. Also, don't get caught doing the same items/exercises repeatedly. Your brain needs to be challenged with many diverse activities. Picking up change from surface top, opening/closing safety pins, buttoning/unbuttoning shirts, thera-putty, fingers to thumb opposition, moving items with affected upper extremity/lower extremity from right to left and then left to right. Hopefully, your therapist is giving you many different exercises and activities to enhance your recovery. Praying for full recovery for you! For all members, Remember FAST Face...is one side drooping? Arms, can person lift arms overhead equally? Speech, is it slurred? Time...if any are noticed...Call the E-squad The sooner treatment is given the less damage done to brain and the faster and easier recovery can be. 3 Quote
