Funny coincidence....I was just considering strolling in and starting a thread about boat rentals...guess I should...instead of jacking this one 1 Quote
Backroad Angler Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 Wouldn't be a bad idea, I know on like tacklewarehouse I believe they have a program where you can get certain rods/reels from listed companys (shimano, abu garcia, lews etc) as a trial. Not so much renting, but sorta in the same ball park. 1 Quote

LonnieP Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 Just saltwater. I rented a rod and reel fishing off Jeanette’s pier at Nags Head last summer. Quote

BLFishing Posted November 19, 2018 Author Posted November 19, 2018 Found some people who do it for fly fishing as well Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted November 19, 2018 Super User Posted November 19, 2018 Nope. For some reason, I don't like to use other people gear. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted November 19, 2018 Super User Posted November 19, 2018 There is a place where we vacation at the beach that will rent kayaks or paddle boards and drop you at the ramp and pick you back up at an appointed time. That sounds pretty cool. I usually just take my own though. Quote
Chance_Taker4 Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 I wouldn't feel comfortable renting a lure. If it snags or breaks off I'm paying for a new lure and the rental fee. 1 Quote
Super User Log Catcher Posted November 21, 2018 Super User Posted November 21, 2018 I have never rented any fishing equipment. Like some others posted I am not comfortable using other peoples equipment. I really wouldn't rent a lure. Chance_Taker4 got that one right. Quote
Derek1 Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 Being fairly new to the sport I would love to rent rod reels for the weekend/week and really be able to get a feel for the different powers/actions that would really help someone like me decide on wich brands I liked over others. Sorry about the grammar in that Quote

Yeah, I understand that, it would suck to get a double whammy on it. I'm curious about your thoughts on this though... What if you were to rent a $7 lure for $2 for a week, and if you snag and lose it, you only owe $5. At worst case, you've only spent $7 to try a new lure and it's as if you bought the lure in store in the first place and then lost it. Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted February 5, 2019 Super User Posted February 5, 2019 I know you pre-qualified it as no commercial use but as a guide, people rented me, my boat, my gear and my knowledege every time I went out. They abused it all. 2 Quote
CharlieTN Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 It would certainly be nice for me as a newbie to at a minimum be able to try out a rod and reel before purchasing. The options are overwhelming for sure. I know with high-end fly-fishing stores they usually have a place you can cast a rod before purchasing it. It would be nice to be able to do the same with bass gear. Quote
ratherbfishin1 Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 My thoughts are that if I want to try out a $5 lure I am just going to buy it. If I were to try out a $100 swim-bait I would buy one because I don't want to be responsible another persons lure of that cost. However with rods and reels, if I could rent them with little hassle and they have nice quality stuff then I might be willing to do it. Unfortunately, if people are renting it, they aren't going to care for it as much as they should. At that point I would be worried about dealing with either a junky rod/reel, or someone else breaking it a little and me finishing it and having to pay for it. For example if someone rented a rod and chipped/dented it but it wasn't visible and I went out and broke it on a fish then I am responsible for paying for it even though I am not at fault. 1 Quote

Scratch that, stupid idea, I have seen how some people treat their own stuff... The idea that I could rent a rod, reel or lure to try out would not appeal to me unless I am getting it brand new, out of the box condition. 3 Quote

BassinCNY Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 I've rented fly fishing equipment, boots, waders, rods, reels and line. I've never purchased something at home based on a rental experience except for line. The only bass fishing equipment I have rented is a boat. Quote
