Ksam1234 Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 So I bought a rod from 6th sense and after checking it completely over. I noticed one of the guides wasn’t fully secure to the rod. You could clearly see a gap in the epoxy and the rod guide was bent up. I returned it and they actually gave me a hard time so I won’t be buying rods again from them. But they sent me a rod back in return for 40$ in shipping.. this rod had the same problem but on 2 guides! I tried to bend them back softly this time and I heard a small crack. Now I notice there is a small crack in the epoxy on the guide. How do I fix this. Pics are hard to get. But if you zoom in on the bottom part of the guide you can see the epoxy is cracked. And if I pull down on the guide there is a tiny little gap it’s not fully stuck to the rod. Quote

One of the reasons I seldom buy a rod unseen is that there is a wide range of quality and consistency in many. A new rod should be free of defects cosmetic or otherwise, but I doubt it will affect anything. A drop of nail polish will seal it, and its not a bad idea to have a small bottle of rod finish for minor repairs, as guides and tips will be the most common required repair. I find most rods have way to much finish that cause excesive build up and even drips. Quote

Yeah they had horrible customer service and gave me a hard time when I tried to return it and I only had it for 2 weeks. I just don’t want it to get worse. Already spent way more than I should on it. I've had a couple rods do that after a while of using them and I simply drop a dab of superglue in the gap and never had a problem after that. 1 Quote

Hard as nails is the standard. I use it to finish feathered trebles and small jigs I tie also, and it holds up well. Looking at your pictures, There is already a lot of high build finish on there, I'd leave it or put just a tiny amount on there. The finish "should" end at the thread and blank and not climb up or fill in the area between the ring/foot and blank, but you do see this a lot particularly with the new micro and mini single foot guides (which suck by the way). You know there is no sixth sense, it's just misinterpreted memories causing perceived precognition.... Quote

Looks like the quality control for this brand is somewhat lacking Yesh I posted s review on tackle warehouse .. what upset me the most wasn’t the rod being defected but the horrible customer service. The guy was super rude. Said it was weird or “sketchy” that I wanted to return it even though I only had it for like a week or 2. I like the lures they have and have had awesome results on jigs and cranks but the rods apparently not. I mean the rods are nice, they are light and strong as it seems but the service and the fact they keep sending me bad guides just turned me away. It’s the 6th sense company lux rods. Quote

The EBay seller was out of that particular rod so they credited me the cost of the rod and said to keep it. (Pretty sweet) IMO this defect would not likely cause any problems but if you are like me, just knowing it will drive you crazy. I took a small flat tip jeweler screw driver and very carefully removed the remaining epoxy from the gap forward of the guides (this is fairly easy to do, it came off in a big chunk for the most part). Then I simply applied some Flexkote line guide epoxy and let it dry for a couple of days. Rod looks like new and my OCD is at peace for now. I think the epoxy was roughly 15 bucks from mudhole.com. 1 Quote

Yeah as far as everyone says it won’t rly effect much but my OCD of keeping things new. Will drive me crazy. LionHeart Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 Dude just do what I did if it looks like the company you purchased it from is not going to make it right. I sure as heck wouldn't spend 40 bucks to have it possibly happen again. Just checked and the stuff you want is "Flex Coat, " not Flexkote. It is a little watery but you definitely don't need a rod spinner or anything fancy to do this. Just prop the rod at an angle to let the epoxy dry. I would absolutely do this again, it turned out quite nicely. Now, I couldn't tell you which guides were bent if my life depended on it. Quote

My gear has to maintain perfection or my mind is so distracted that I can't fish. Def would not accept those rods, even if it won't impact anything or can be fixed on my own. I bought directly from 6th sense and the customer service is trash. I emailed them pics and showed them how bad it was and they said it’s unusual for it to happen and then never responded back. Like I purposely bent the guides or something. They were horrible. Quote

The first time I cslled the guy said i was sketchy and sounded weird So I emailed this Travis guy and he is giving me a hard time also. I had line on the to stop bc I wasn’t going to use it before noticing the guides. They were not cooperative at all. They made it seemed like I’m some young kid lying to them or trying to I pull a fast one. I’ll show you how the rod looks tht they sent me. The full rod. Quote

And make sure to wrap it up super good and make sure nothing happens to it. They were very helpful this morning when I cslled and I guess they were just confused on everything. So I’m very happy.. I hate to be “that guy” but I was just disappointed as I like what they do.. so I’m glad all worked out. 1 Quote
