Paddle tail swimbait effective?

What do you think effective of paddle swimbait in strained water visibility 1-2 feet? I know it works but at what percentage compare to clear water or other type lures. how fast do you think work better, fast, moderate or slow claw along the bottom. 

You wont believe me if I told you, I have not caught one fish on this type of lure. I did caught on something else that swim through, like yesterday I caught a 2 lber on swinging jig with Shad shape worm while swimming it back to almost at the surface.

In my experience they can be surprisingly effective for largemouth in stained water, at least when fished slowly. 

 

1-2 ft sounds extremely stained, so I'm not certain about that. 

 

I fish near a storm water outfall into an impoundment with a soft bottom.  After a heavy rain, the water turns to chocolate milk at the outfall, and the outfall really churns up the water.

 

I started fishing this area with firetiger and chartreuse rattle baits and rattling cranks, and did really well.

 

One day I flipped a 3.8-inch or 4.8-inch Kietech fat impact in a very natural baitfish color with a 3/8 oz head right into the churning water.  The bait only rolled along the bottom for a moment before it was engulfed by one of the better bass we've caught in there.  Now, I find that approach, either with a swinging head or a regular swimbait head - drop, deadstick, and let slow roll produces time and again. Not 100% sure how they can detect the natural colored swimbait in churning chocolate milkshake, but they do.  

 

I guess it just goes to show you that bass are highly tuned to finding their prey even in adverse conditions.  In this case, I think the key is putting the bait right where the fish are, as opposed to giving them something they can detect more easily when cruising around in stained water, like the rattlebaits.

Yep very stained, the gold colorado blade helps get their attention, I also use the 4.3" Keitech in either Bluegill flash or green pumpkin.

I had good results  with the pearl colored Keitech underthose conditions believe it or not.

Yes, a paddle tail swim bait will work in stained water.  I WILL say, however, that not all paddle tails are born alike.  Some, look good but have very little action to them.  I get rid of those (or don't buy them).  Others are excellent and I would fish with them all day long.  I haven't fished every product out in the market but of the ones I've tried, my favorite is the Keitech Swing Impact.  Oh, if you don't mind going down in size the Havoc Beat Shad is tough to beat.

Bass pro has some great paddle tail Swimmers,I like the 3 inch version with a 1/4 ounce spin head.Murky water dip the tail n a little JJ s.

I tried underspin with swimming Fluke a few times with no luck and this Lake is very well known for effectiveness of underspin. 

I do have keitech impact 4.8" reg version and 3 others knockoff in different size 2.5" 4" and 5 something.

where the most bite you guys get? When burning it back, slow on bottom or mid retrieve?

Yes.

 

To elaborate, all of the above work in stained water for me.  I don't think a specific pattern is guaranteed to work, but more often than not deadsticking followed by a slow drag will work for me.  Of course, the key is you have to put it close to where the fish are, which is the hard part.

Just slow enough to keep the blade going and I'm bumping contour, that's why I like the colorado blade, I can go real slow and it'll churn. Usually I get a bite right after hitting some sticks or rocks. Look for changes in depth if you can, laydowns, eddy's.

What are your water temps where you are at? I like slow and steady best but some days they may want it fast.

To me an underspin represents a finesse spinnerbait.

They work for me here in FL just fine. Most of the time visibility is a few inches where I fish. I usually upsize the bait the lower the visibility.

I like them as well.   Houdini color works great in the water I fish...  They have good action and they are cheap enough that you don't mind if you loose a few.

Yeah they work . I was fishing Squarebills  one day and blanking . I thought the conditions were right so I tied on a Yum Money Maker on a jig head and wore the bass out . This was in about 1 foot of visibility .

I love the Keitech Swing Impact. I fish mostly in and around submerged and matted grass, and I find that a T-rig with a bullet weight is very effective. Either lightweight finesse style or a heavy punching weight. If I’m punching or using a steady retrieve I’ll peg the weight, but if I’m hopping it through the thinner grass, I like to use an unpainted, unpegged weight. When you bounce it the weight will fall into the grass first and the lure will follow it down a little more slowly, mimicking a minnow or shad or whatever kind of baitfish chasing its prey
