Pflueger Patriarch VS Shimano Stradic CI4

Hey guys, with Christmas coming up I've decided to treat myself to a new spinning rod reel combo.  I previously had a Pflueger Patriarch and loved how light it was on a St. Croix Legend Elite (until they ended up in the lake on a night fishing kayak trip .

 

So the question is since they're only $30 apart in price, which would you guys recommend, the Patriarch or Stradic CI4?  I've never used a Shimano but have heard great things.  I've noticed that the Patriarch is an ounce lighter but I'm guessing one ounce wouldn't make or break or me.

 

I'm leaning toward the Shimano if only because I feel like with a new rod it's kind of like a new start?

 

I will be pairing it with a St Croix Legend Tournament Walleye Rod 6'6 ML in that sexy cobalt color lol if that makes a difference.

I assume you mean the CI4+, right? CI4 is previous model with

the round handle grips.

 

While I haven't used a Patriarch, I have and own a CI4+ 1000.

By far, my favorite reel among all my Stradics. Smooth, light, 

powerful.

I would go with the new Diawa Tatula LT over the Stradic CI4. Both are great reels, but it's just my preference. Plus, you will save some money.

 

But if you are set on the CI4+ and Patriarch, I would pick the Shimano.

Stradic is an outstanding reel and is all i own for spinning reels at this point.

Tough call.  I own both.  Both are smooth as silk.  I use the Pflueger more because it's light as a feather.  The Shimano might get the nod because it holds more line.  I was almost spooling the Pflueger out last week tossing a 3/4 oz blade bait looking for SMB.

 

If possible, mount each to the rod you're using them on and go with your gut.

I’ve owned both and prefer the pflueger. In fact I’ve sold off all but one of my shimano spinning reels and replaced them with pfluegers.

Love the Pflueger Patriarch. I own many reels but I find myself rearching for it more than any other.

It appears of those that have owned both (really the only opinions that count), the Patriarch gets the nod... and still you're leaning Shimano.

I currently have 5 stradics and have never been impressed with them- I know why the heck keep buying them?

Kinda stuck with them since every time one has an issue they get sent back to shimano and replaced with a new one...

i have a number of the regular Stradics, different models, size 4000.  I like them, but I also have a Partiarch and like it also.  As above, both are very smooth, both have been reliable.  If I were to buy again, price within $30, and the Patriarch an oz lighter, I'd buy it.

The closest Patriarch by weight to the 2500 Ci4 (6.7 oz.) is the 6.2 oz. model. The big difference I see is the slow 5.1 gear ratio. The Patriarch picks up  28' per handle turn. The Stradic picks up 35".  In fact, if you really want light, the smaller 5.6 oz 1000 size picks up 31" of line P/T.

I’ve had Pfleugers and a couple Stradic FJ and a couple Stradic CI4+. I much much prefer the line management features of the Shimanos, less line twist and tangles by far. I also think xship really makes a difference in spinning reels.

I have 2 patriarchs. A good fishing buddy has the Shimano. We switch off often. I prefer the pfluger. I've never been happy with my Shimano spinning reels.
