Motor not peeing

I replace my fuel line to my 2003 Mercury 150 XR6 and it started just fine. But now it doesn't want to pee, I see a little water at the bottom of where it should be peeing from. This couldn't be the water pump, could it??? Or could it be something else??? Thanks for anything input or advice. And Merry Christmas

Could be clogged...mine did that on the water this fall and I ran some thick mono up it  because that's all I had and it actually worked.

Change the Impeller, it is cheap and two guys can do it with two sockets and a screwdriver.   Why risk it.

I just changed the impeller on mine this fall.  Easy job for one guy to do.  Lots of youtube videos on it.  Just make sure you get the right impeller kit.  Comes with impeller housing, impeller, and new gaskets and spacers.

You've got to get the right impeller kit, and you have to orient the pump impeller blades in the right direction when putting the impeller into the pump housing.  It can be done at home, but this is a little further than I want to go on a big engine.  If your impeller has not been changed since 2003, it is WAY overdue.  Either do it or have it done.

 

There are a couple common ways the water system can be clogged.  One is that mud can be pumped into the system by shallow running.  The other is that mud dobber wasps can plant their larvae in the "pee hole," clogging it up.

 

But as I said, if it has not been changed since 2003, just get it done or do it yourself.

Did you launch the boat and start it?

The pee stream indicates the water pump is working but doesn’t indicate if water is going through the power head after the engine warms up and the thermostat has opened. Your exhaust should have water coming out when the thermostat has opened and the water pump is working.

Two times this summer I had wasps build a nest in my 'pee hole'.  <--  LOL.   One time was found when I was on the water already and had to troll all the way back.  Now I store it with a golf tee in the hole.

Me too, and on both ends. In my old 25 HP Yamaha they had nested in toe inlet and the output hole. Took me forever to get it all cleaned out. This reminds me: I was going to put a strip of duct tape over mine for the winter to keep them out.

I need to update on my motor not peeing. I have a new impeller just waiting to be installed, once it warms up to 40 degrees....lol

Before you take the motor apart, do the following:

 

Option One

1. Get a water bottle and take a big swig of water.

2. Put lips on hole and force the water into the tube.

3. This works while on the water, too.

 

Second Option

1. Get a long pipe cleaner and shove it into the hole.

2. Move it back and forth a few times.

 

Third Option

Keep long pipe cleaner in hole when storing boat to keep bugs out of the small vent.

 

After doing options 1 and 2 start the motor to see if it is working correctly.

 

If not, you probably need a new water pump.

Shouldn't have to worry about mud dobbers this winter. My water pump doesn't pee in super cold conditions until the engine warms up a bit

I used to have to knock some kind of larvae out of the ignition key hole of my Massey Ferguson tractor when I started it the first time in the spring. I had to do it to my Dad's tractor too.

Run it in a barrel of cranberry juice for a few minutes! ?
