MichaelCopeland Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 I apologize for not being on here much lately. November 11th I had to move back up here to Shreveport and leave my job at Bill Lewis Outdoors Rat L Trap. Since then I've been seeking new work trying to stay as close to the fishing business as possible. I've applied at Bass Pro Shops, Dick's Sporting Goods and Academy Sports. I finally got a call this morning from Academy Sports for an interview in the morning. I'm really excited about that and was told they are really interested in me. It's only for a part time position at this time, but I'm confident I can turn that into full time as long as I can get my foot in the door. If y'all could say a prayer for me that would be greatly appreciated. I really need this job and I believe the knowledge I've gained from here and the books I've been reading will greatly help in my success working there. Thank you all in advance for the prayers and being such great individuals with the knowledge you've passed on to me. I love you all and God Bless! 3 Quote

Super User Sam Posted December 7, 2017 Super User Posted December 7, 2017 Michael, sorry to read about your situation and that you had to move back to Shreveport. I sincerely hope whatever the reason for the move works out in your favor. As for jobs in the fishing industry, as you know, they are few and far between and once a guy gets one he holds on to it. But with that said, there are many, many fishing industry positions throughout the country that you could handle without any problem. I know you don't want to leave Louisiana and especially Bossier City (), but you may have to, if possible. Otherwise I think you are doing the right thing by getting on at Academy Sports (best frog out there...H2O) and then working into a full time position. Don't forget the big boys, like Pure Fishing and others. They may need reps in the deep south so apply to them. Can't hurt. Wishing you good luck in your application at Academy Sports. Please keep us posted on what happens. 1 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted December 7, 2017 Super User Posted December 7, 2017 Hang in there, mate! Hope you get the job, good luck! 1 Quote

Don't wanna leave my girlfriend behind, though, as we can't afford a move like that at the moment. When that day comes, if I'm working for Academy Sports, I should be able to get a transfer as long as they have a location out there. Thanks for your encouraging words @Sam Quote
Junger Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 Good luck, make them recognize that you're an enthusiast and willing to help customers and even teach them a thing or two. Any 18 year old kid can be trained to swipe a UPC scanner on an item and swipe a credit card, but building trust and relationships with customers is what keeps bringing them back in the door, and that's what you want to convey. 2 1 Quote

CroakHunter Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 If for some very odd reason you end up in southern indiana, where I work is hiring like crazy and starting at around $17-19 an hour. And I could show you some sweet ponds! Haha. Good luck michael, I'll be thinking about you. It'll all work out, it always does, just give it time. 1 Quote
