MyronPbody Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 Hi Everyone, I just moved out near Warrenton VA and I am looking for some good spots to wade fish for smallies or some decent lakes to Kayak. I know of Brittle and will try that in the near future, but I am looking for some less pressured areas. Does anyone know any good streams or ponds that I can fish? Quote
Super User Darren. Posted October 20, 2017 Super User Posted October 20, 2017 Welcome aboard, Myron! You'll want to hit up @TOXIC as that's his neck of the woods! Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted October 23, 2017 Super User Posted October 23, 2017 Welcome neighbor!! I've fished most every mudpuddle around our town. I'll give you a list and you can contact me if you want more specific info. Lake Brittle (you already know) Crockett Park (off Meetz Rd) Lake Pelham (Culpepper county) permit needed. Mountain Run (Near Pelham same permit needed) Lake Orange (Orange County) Lake Curtis Rapahanock River (Phelps WMR) Shenandoah River These are all of the ones that I have fished that are fairly close. There are more if you are willing to travel. I fish out of a 21 foot bassboat now and miss the small waters sometimes. 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted October 25, 2017 Super User Posted October 25, 2017 For bank fishing, you can hit the pond at Sky Meadows State Park on Route 17, just south of Route 50. The pond is not fished very often and you will be the only one there. Not sure if you have to pay a parking fee. Check it out. Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted October 25, 2017 Super User Posted October 25, 2017 Good catch Sam. You are correct that is an option. I never paid for parking there but the VDGIF may charge now. IT is not so much of an undiscovered gem anymore and does get some moderate pressure. I usually fished it on my way home from wading on the Shenandoah. There is also the pond on the Phelps WMR in Remington. Too small to Kayak but bank fishing is allowed. 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted October 27, 2017 Super User Posted October 27, 2017 Myron, there is a concrete pond on the campus of Shenandoah University that has bass in it. You fish it from the bank. Check it out. Just drive into the campus and it is behind the first buildings. You can't miss it. Quote
MyronPbody Posted December 18, 2017 Author Posted December 18, 2017 Thanks everyone for the responses. It took me a while to get settled, still finishing the basement on the new house. I did get out to Brittle and CM Crockett. I think Crockett will take me a little while to get to know. I am excited because it is only about 20 min from my house. I also went out to Kelly's Ford this weekend and I think I am going to give the Rappahannock a Phelps WMA a go. I fly fish from time to time and that stretch of water seems like a great spot for smallies. Quote
