E6x or Bass X

All my life I have been a St. Croix rod user and have many premier series rods and a legend xtreme (best rod I've ever fished). The bass team that I am on is sponsored by G. Loomis so I will get a great deal on their rods, about half price, and am considering investing in a few E6x rods for my arsenal. However, being a St. Croix guy and having my "brand loyalty" has brought me to look at the bass x rods which would be similar in price to what I could get E6x for. 

I'm looking for any thoughts and opinions on bass x vs E6x and I realize this is a very broad question but if you have fished either series I'd love to know about your experience with these rods. I'm really looking at the comparison in quality, sensitivity and comfort.

I have an e6x for CB, SB and jig/worm.  Very happy with them, but don't compare to the GLX.  If you can discount on a GLX, it is money well spent

I get the discount off the full G. Loomis line up. I know I will end up ordering a few G. Loomis rods during my time with the team to test them out and see what I think. However, as I add 5 rods to my arsenal for the summer tournament season, I'm just not sure what I should go with initially. What I know (St. Croix) or what I don't know (G. Loomis).

Have not fished a better rod.  I am sure others will disagree

I remember I was 15, just starting to purchase decent gear while working on the farm. A friend of dads was showing me how to jig fish and handed me his G Loomis IMX, I could immediately feel the difference from what I had. I never ended up with one, I've been more hooked on st. Croix, neither are bad. I suggest to the op, handle both sticks if you can, with the reel you plan on using, and you make the decision based off the one that feels best to you.

I am a G. Loomis fanboy and I've never fished with a St. Croix rod so take all this with a grain of salt. That being said... if I had a chance to buy G. Loomis rods at 50% off it would be a no-brainer!

Both rods would fit the bill nicely.  I have a couple St Croix's (although not the bass x model) and I love them.  I also have a couple E6X's and while they might not be the best money can buy, they do the trick.   If I had the option of getting 50% off of the loomis line up though, I would save up to utilize that as much as I can for their higher end lines where their quality starts to shine.  I think a lot of people on here, myself being one of them, would drool over a 50% discount off the loomis line up if it applies to all of their lines...

I've been fishing St Croix for nearly 20 years and love their rods. However, these two are nowhere near comparable quality.  The Bass-X, while technique specific and a decent bang for the buck rod, does not handle nearly as well as the E6x line that was introduced to compete with the Avid/Avid X lines.  With this said, I agree with the above post.  If possible, save up and invest in the higher end options from G. Loomis.

I love St. Croix.  The deal you have...  you are nuts to not jump on the Loomi (Loomisses?).  EX6 are like the Avid models

I just bought a bass x and haven't tried it yet but it looks and feels great. If you can get a good deal on the E6x I would go for it. Should be a next level rod than the bass x

I bought a bass x about a month ago. Very disappointed it feels stiff and does not load up well on a cast. I actually really don't use it much anymore. It's actually a backup rod behind my b out rod. I don't know anything about Loomis rods, but I know I wouldn't buy another bass x

I haven't tried mine yet but I heard good things. Curious what model yours is? I got a medium Power, extra fast action, 6'8" spinning rod

That's a pretty peculiar problem to have.  What lures are you throwing, and have you matched them with the lure weight and line diameter ratings for the rod?  That rod is build on a similar blank to the Premiers, which have always been quality entry level rods that cast and handle well.

I would say if anything the ES6 compares more to the new SCIII Mojo. The Bass X is Just the Premier dressed up to look like a "cool pro rod". 

 

Not that the Pemier is a bad rod.

The E6X is definitely a step above the Bass X line

 

The E6X is very similar to the avid blank (SC III graphite from St. Croix) and the Bass X line is only their SC II graphite.

I own a few Mojo Bass older models as well as a new Bass X. I also have two E6Xs. Of the two brands, I am a St Croix person (have a couple of Legend Extremes too -- best rods on earth!); but the E6X is definitely a higher-end rod than the Bass X. If price is equal and the determining factor, buy the G Loomis. You'll be very happy with it. If, however, you're a die-hard St Croix person, the Bass X will do the trick too. The new Mojos are worth looking into as well!

I was throwing plastics, with a 3/16 weight and 12 lbs fluro. I really liked the feel of the rod at Cabela's, so I bought it on a whim. I liked it for pitching smaller plastics ( creature baits), but whenever I would is a roll cast I continued to cast a little to my right. At first I thought it was just me, but after a while I noticed that when I cast it was not loading up. I don't hate the rod, but I would take my cheap b_out rod any day over it. I used my buddies avid and loved it. The bass x just seemed very stiff for a med fast rod

@Mjmj yeah, that's weird.  Is it only when you roll cast?  Might it be something with the mechanics of the cast?  If there is a legit problem with the blank, St. Croix has awesome customer service.

I wonder if the rod is mislabelled and it actually has a MH blank.
