Super User Sam Posted September 2, 2017 Super User Posted September 2, 2017 Yep, here we go again. Pay attention to the storm heading towards the Atlantic coast this week. And it could be a big one. I have plans to attend the Richmond NASCAR race on September 9th and hopefully by that time the storm will be headed into the Atlantic. Dave at Wxrisk.com seems to lean towards Hurricane Irene hitting the South Carolina or North Carolina coast line. Stay tuned. Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 3, 2017 Author Super User Posted September 3, 2017 This weekend Dave says not to believe the American model (GFS) as it is incorrect. The European model has the hurricane traveling up the Atlantic coast line and heading out to sea with no landfall. The American model has a Cat 5 storm coming ashore around North Carolina and the Virginia Tidewater areas and then heading into the Midwest. Let's all hope the European model is correct and the American model is totally wrong. Quote

Super User Darren. Posted September 4, 2017 Super User Posted September 4, 2017 There was a post on this earlier in the week, a lot has changed since. Florida is in the sights now, but past 5 days it is still a crap shoot as to whether Irene goes further inland, or makes a run up Florida, skirting the Eastern sea board or running up FL and into wester portions of GA, SC, etc. The spaghetti models for both GFS and EU are getting a bit closer in agreement. As Henry Margusity says, the bigger a storm, the more it wants to go straight. Takes a lot of energy to turn it. Henry Margusity @HenryMargusity Following More As I said before, big storms plow straight. takes a lot of energy to move a big hurricane that is producing a lot of energy. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted September 4, 2017 Global Moderator Posted September 4, 2017 Gotta watch this one close! Our local Home Depot is already sold out of generator's!! Mike Quote
XpressJeff Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 This one could be very ugly. I am glad I hope those living anywhere east of me take the time to prepare just in case. If any member needs to get boat, motor home or anything away from the coast please holler at me. I have a few acres to store it on. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted September 4, 2017 Global Moderator Posted September 4, 2017 A State of Emergency has just been declared for the State of Florida. Mike Quote
Super User Darren. Posted September 5, 2017 Super User Posted September 5, 2017 Dave's latest post on FB goes back to the drawing board since Irma's track has changed. I posted the link but it was blocked for "security rules"... And this is an excellent video explaining Irma, by tropicaltidbits.com's Levi Cowan. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted September 5, 2017 Super User Posted September 5, 2017 And apparently she's now a Cat 5 Two recon planes are simultaneously investigating Category 5 Hurricane #Irma. Real-time data is available here: https://www.tropicaltidbits.com/recon/ Quote
