Hey all, I've been browsing the site these past few weeks since getting a little more into bass fishing and I'm excited to learn more about this great hobby. This summer I've been fishing the river around the corner from my house (which is more like a reservoir), mostly with my 6 year old son. Sometimes we bank fish but mostly we take an inflatable with trolling motor. It's funny, we've been out fishing here and there since we moved to our house five years ago, but up until this year we had only caught pickerel, yellow perch, bluegill, and a few smallmouth on mostly Mepps-type spinners and worms. I started messing around with soft plastics this year and after having a banner morning (for me) catching four 2-3 pound largemouth I'm obsessed!

I finally upgraded my Walmart special rod/reel combo with a Daiwa spinning setup from the local shop, and now I've got my eyes on getting into baitcasting. It sounds like the Daiwa CT would be a good reel so I will probably start a thread to ask about rods that would complement my medium fast spinning setup.

Thanks in advance for any advice and I look forward to joining the fun!
