I purchased a CI4+ in the 1000 size recently, and I took it out for the first time today. I had high expectations, as one may for a 240 dollar reel. But a few casts in I noticed that there seemed to be more resistance than I was expecting. I know most people will say its just because it's because its a 1000 size reel, but I've used a 1000 size sedona for probably 5 year with much heavier and more demanding baits with no similar problems, and thats a 70 dollar reel. Do you guys think this is normal, or something I should contact the store about? Do I maybe just need to break it in a bit to smooth it out?I don't want to continue using this if it isn't a normal thing, given that its a tad expensive. If anyone has had similar problems, tell me what you did. Any ideas or advice is welcome. Thanks!

Id say if you have any doubts about it,take it back and exchange it. Check the replacement to see if its better before leaving. A 240.00 reel should work flawless.

As far as a 1000 size reel having more resistance, thats nothin but B/S :)

I have 1000size,1500 size,2500size,and they all reel the the same.

Hope all works out for you sir :)

While I very much dislike the line management associated with the 1000 size it should function the same as a larger reel given the lure weight is within reason. My FK is butter smooth and if your Ci4 isn't I would take it back because it should be.

I'd exchange it. That model is my absolute favorite of my 5

Stradics -- all 1000 models from FI to FJ to FK to CI4+.

Something sounds wrong with it, potentially. Should be a

buttery smooth reel out of the box. All of mine have been

just that.

And with braid, there's zero line-management issues with

1000 size - at least for me :)

Thank you guys for the input. I'll take it out tomorrow and if it still feels off I'll definitely have to consider getting it replaced.

Time is running out on an exchange. I'm pretty sure it hasn't improved hanging on the rod or stashed away in the box..

Good luck and don't settle. Exchange it!

I have had this issue with a stradic fk and Sahara. It happened while I was throwing a small crankbait like a shad rap or any other small bait that would.cause some resistance to the rod. I would feel a bunch of resistance, almost like it was hard to reel. The reels felt fine with everything else though

I have been fishing 8lb braid on a 1000 Ci4+ all spring and summer.  I have to watch for tip wrap when I miss a hookset, but other then that, no problems and good casting distance.
