crypt Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 what if you could buy any rod you wanted without concern about price, what would you get? and why. was wondering while I was wrapping my latest one and thought I know why I build mine but if I didn't what would I use. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted June 24, 2017 Global Moderator Posted June 24, 2017 MH/F Loomis NRX. Why? Because after all the reviews I've read, talking to guys who have one, and comments on here from folks who actually use one... 2nd choice would be a Phenix Ultra MBX Classic..I've been hearing more and more about them. Super User MassYak85 Posted June 24, 2017 Super User Posted June 24, 2017 Probably a custom Spiral Wrapped swimbait rod from MOAM with an ALPS seat and a cool paint design. I mean just look at some of these... http://www.moamsticks.com/showroom.html 1 Quote
Selbor2u Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 Gloomis NRX 6'8 M spinning rod. i wanted the lightest, strongest & most sensitive rod I could get my hands on. It's perfect. 3.5 ounces & handles anything. Casts lightweight lures a country mile. Super sensitive. Perfect balance. 1 Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted June 24, 2017 Super User Posted June 24, 2017 I have done this many times already. My choices do not reflect mega dollars spent but I get what I need from St Croix Avids, Premiers and Shimano Crucials. I do have others, including 6 or 7 customs, but those are all built on Avid or Premier blanks too. I guess maybe I have a very good sense of feel in my hands because they are plenty sensitive to me and are built with great components. So, given the situation of "cost is no concern" I'll find something from the long list of St Croix Avids to satisfy my requirements...again. 2 Quote
PatrickKnight Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 A custom moderate fast action ml power 7'6" spinning rod from DVT built with what ever guides, reel seat, and blank he thought would be best. 1 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted June 24, 2017 Super User Posted June 24, 2017 This week I got to try an NRX.........I will have 2 this Winter......life is to short! 4 Quote
Fishinthefish Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 More custom rods, custom jig rod, custom crank bait rod. Basically all of my money would be going to Mike at DVT if I had a say in the matter lol. 1 Quote
XpressJeff Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 Probably a 21 foot Ranger with a 250 E-tech, and all the goodies. I am not smart enough to know what to do with rods and reels of that quality! 5 Quote

XpressJeff Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 Nope Yak, it would go right in the shop. I could never let it get wet unless it was in the lake! 1 Quote
Yudo1 Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 I've always wanted nrx rods because sensitivity is so important to me so I now own several because life is too short. I'm at the phase where I'm pretty satisfied with my arsenal although I may pick up a new megabass destroyer. 2 Quote
bigturtle Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Iv always wanted a top of the line megabass rod. Now i have 3. Next up are evergreen and daiwa. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 25, 2017 Global Moderator Posted June 25, 2017 I'd have a custom jig rod built with a St. Croix Legend Xtreme blank. 2 Quote
NathanDLTH Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 I'm quite content with the Tatula Elite and AGS rods. Love them. However if price was not an issue there are some nice Dobyns and G-Loomis rods out there. 1 Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted June 26, 2017 Super User Posted June 26, 2017 probably would have to try a custom phenix k2 with all the bells and whistles.... 1 Quote
tholmes Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 I'm pretty well satisfied wth the gear I have now. I've got all the bases covered and more, fancier wouldn't catch me any more fish. I guess I'd opt for a new truck. Tom 3 Quote

They are awesome rods. You will enjoy them. I had two 7'3" medium spinning rods but figured I didn't need 2 of the exact same rods so I sold one. Kinda wish I hadn't now. 3 Quote
Lures'n'Liberty Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 If money is no object then this is easy, all of them, along with a couple of boats and a new truck to pull 'em. 2 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted June 26, 2017 Super User Posted June 26, 2017 I would love to have a set of custom rods built . I like a beefier fore-grip and a shorter handle than what comes equipped on most rods . My favorite rod is an old Berkely Titanium , it just fits me . It's my 6'8'' worm rod. Twice I bought rods to replace it but I keep switching back . 1 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted June 26, 2017 Super User Posted June 26, 2017 Before I could make such a decision, I'd like to try rods from Loomis, and some high-end St. Croix, Shimano, as well as custom builds... However, if I had to pick from existing stock today, I'd go for top of the line Croix, and Loomis just to see what all the fuss is about 2 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted June 26, 2017 Super User Posted June 26, 2017 I didn't think anything could top the GLX, but used my brother-in-law's this afternoon and I was so wrong.....think I could feel a fish fart as he passed my jig ? 3 Quote

spokey9 Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Something from one of lamiglas lines of rods. They're here in Western Washington and I've been huge fan of their rods since I was old enough to understand what the difference a quality rod makes. Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted June 27, 2017 Super User Posted June 27, 2017 6'0''-7'0'' heavy action rod that can handle a large amount of abuse from bank fishing to offshore fishing for dolphin. 1 Quote
