joe chum Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 I'm wondering what you guys throw in soft plastics to represent yellow perch? I have alot of hard baits in perch patterns and have done very well. My last outting I slayed the Smallies on a perch pattern popper. A few of fish regurgitated perch. I'm looking for patterns in small swimbaits, soft stick baits, tubes, soft jerk baits and dropshot baits. Quote

Outdoor Zack Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Zoom has a magnum fluke in the yellow perch pattern. Never used it, but its cool looking. Quote
Super User gim Posted June 13, 2017 Super User Posted June 13, 2017 I don't have any soft plastics in perch pattern that I can think of, but several hard lures like top water, crank bait, and jerk bait. Perch is the primary forage base in a lot of bigger lakes up here so it generally is a good color to have. Quote
jr231 Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Any color combination of greens, black, yellow and orange should do the trick. Get some spike it markers 1 Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted June 13, 2017 Super User Posted June 13, 2017 I toss a Santone swim jig in sun perch, with a green pumpkin trailer. Tied up some custom perch skirts for swim jigs , black and watermelon on top with white and orange on bottom that I will try this year. One thing to keep in mind is a lot of times the orange is very subdued in perch, especially the smaller sizes, so I try to not overdue it. Generally though I find that I end up with gill colors instead, water red or smoke purple. Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted June 13, 2017 Super User Posted June 13, 2017 If I am truly trying to imitate perch I use this, probably a bit bigger than what you're asking but hey, perch are decent size. For more traditional soft plastics I'd probably go for a green pumpkin fluke, and you could add some yellow or orange JJ's or other dye for stripes. 2 Quote

ErikmonBillsfon Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 lc qccc xkietech male perch color has been killing it for me this year. We dont have shad in CT or MA so perch and bluegill is the primary forage. I am always looking for perch pattern baits. One thing about kwitech male perch color. It has in my opinion a very fake green is too fake looking. Almost like a lime green when I would have prefered a more natural green like a watermelon or a timber green. I dont know that picture dooesnt look like reel life. The orange flake is nice though. Live target made a perch but i havent caught anything on it yet. I think westin made percy the perch or some sort of bootail soft bait. Ive never tried the brand has anyone tried their lures? they look really great and i think have potential Ive also tried sebile magic swimmer soft in perch color. they have natural, orange and red perch colors but the action of the lure is erratic and inconsistant although its caught me some nice fish its kind of a fluke/swimbait bybrid. Im always looking for the next perch lure so this thread is awesome!!! Quote

Super User Cgolf Posted June 14, 2017 Super User Posted June 14, 2017 For just a straight plastic Northland used to have a slurpies tube and other styles that were a dead on perch imitation. You may find them in some bargain bins at some shops. Not sure why they didn't take off, I still have a few and they were really well made baits. Quote
Steveo-1969 Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 Another that hasn't been mentioned is a Berkley Powerbait Ripple Shad in Firetiger color. 5 different sizes available on TW. I've always had great luck with Ripple Shads on a jig head. Quote

BuzzHudson19c Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 Strike king shim e stick "Sweet tater pie." It's not spot on, but close enough. I have caught more fish on that color than any other soft plastic. Quote
