gall Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 So I got my girlfriend into fishing and long story short she has lot of issues with braid ie winding knots all that I know it's 99% angler issues but I was thinking of putting just straight fc on her reel for her and that way it's more manageable so what would you guys recommend for a good 6/8#fc for spinning reels low memory and soft would be nice o have line conditioner so I can hopefully keep memory extremely low and aside from tastu which is a maybe still price isn't a huge deal 1 Quote

I think you can get away with something like Yo-Zuri HyBrid in 6 or 8# and forget it. Great line for all-purpose fishing. I use it often as leader. 2 Quote
Super User RoLo Posted May 23, 2017 Super User Posted May 23, 2017 This I will tell you, the first time I tried using fluorocarbon line on spinning gear, I felt like a beginner all over again! My wife and I have found fluorocarbon to be far too wiry for our brand of spinning, and far too stretchy as well. We both use braided line exclusively on our spinning tackle, and wind-knots are never a problem. There are a couple things you can do to alleviate wind-knots, one is to use 30-lb braid rather than 20-lb braid, another is to increase the tension on the magnetic brake. Roger Quote

Roger SPINNING reels have BRAKES now ? Quote

gall Posted May 23, 2017 Author Posted May 23, 2017 I was gonna say the same thing about breaks and it's been less lately but she stll gets them time to time and I've tried to teach her about making sure it's tense and kinda fingering the line and all that but she's trying ti much to use her arm strength instead of using her rod and also we wade so getting rid of braid would be nice so I don't have to retie leader's often for her Quote
dsqui Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 Sunline sniper is a good option.i got introduced to sunline with gander brand floro which is made by sublime and held up very well it's about half the price.well same price just double the length. Since then I have switched to all sunline for my floro needs 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 23, 2017 Global Moderator Posted May 23, 2017 Seaguar Finesse has been great for me, but I can't imagine it being more manageable than braid on a spinning reel. I think I'd go with a good, limp mono instead. 2 Quote
Attila Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 Is perhaps using mono a better option for you? Light line in the 6-8lbs test range shouldn't have any issues provided she's throwing the right type and size of lures. Also it'll save some money as well, given you can pick up a spool of say Stren for under $10 versus a good quality fluorocarbon. Finally, maybe some time at shore with just a practice plug is in order? I know for me sometimes I just go out to a local soccer field and cast a plug to practice my technique when it comes to various types of casts. Just food for thought. 1 Quote
PatrickKnight Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 I would put some Trilene XL 8lb on there and see how that works out for her. 1 Quote
blckshirt98 Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 Anything heavier than 8 lb FC on a spinning reel will shoot off like a Slinky. What kind of braided line do you have spooled right now causing the wind knots? Have you tried going to a heavier braid like 15-20#? Quote
gall Posted May 23, 2017 Author Posted May 23, 2017 We are using 15# on hers right now the idea of her practicing isn't a bad one at all and I've considered putting cp on hers cause most of her techniques are bottom or weightless plastics 1 Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted May 24, 2017 Super User Posted May 24, 2017 If you're expecting FC to be more manageable on a spinning reel that braid, I think you're gonna find yourself disappointed. 1 Quote
gall Posted May 24, 2017 Author Posted May 24, 2017 That's my only concern I've ive tried straight fc in the past for myself with mixed results and went to braid with a fc leader should just get her a new rod with the microwave guides ha she's using my old bps Carbonite the black ones and it's Sen better days including a replacement tip Top but she loves that rod might just bump up the braid to a higher # with my stradic I can count on one hand how many winding knots I've had 1 but then again I do all the things my instinct now to keep the chances low might try the p line cx premium and see how that works for her Quote
