Buckjunkie Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 What swim jigs and trailers are you guys using(size and color also)? Also when and how do you fish them? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 13, 2017 Super User Posted May 13, 2017 http://www.siebertoutdoors.com/Swim-Jig-902.htm I like the Rage Tail Menace, Shellcracker and Structure Bug for trailers. 1 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted May 13, 2017 Super User Posted May 13, 2017 I too use a lot of siebert and have had a lot of luck with the ragetail. Any plastic shorter than 4 inches is a candidate when the bite drops off 1 Quote
Scarborough817 Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 normally a 3/8oz siebert swimjig with a keitech SIF or a gambler ez trailer slow rolled through sparse grass maybe twitch it once in a while 1 Quote
Megastink Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 1/4-3/8oz Strike King swim jig, either the tour grade or hack attack versions. I stick to bluegill patterns, and I like a Rage Craw, Rage Grub, Menace, or Rage Swimmer. use them ALWAYS. There's no bad time for one. Typically shallow cover. Fish it like a spinnerbait. Use heavier gear: 15-20lb fluoro, 30-50lb braid, 7' MH rod. 1 Quote
CTBassin860 Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 3/8 ounce Siebert Outdoors jig in Devil Craw and a Rage Craw in Watermelon Meat for the trailer. Presentation is deadly.Throw it out a and reel it in with different retrieval speeds. 1 Quote
trupp30 Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 I have had good luck with a 3/8 oz Hack attack heavy cover swim jig. I use the bluegill pattern almost all the time. I have used sexy shad, as well. As far as, trailers go I use a rage menace, and Keitech SIF. I fish it all the time, as a search bait and to cover water. 1 Quote
Brett's_daddy Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 Siebert Outdoors makes great stuff but there is also another brand that works really well too...unfortunately BR filters the name so if interested PM me and I'll let you know who it is. Either those guys or Siebert's are what I would use. 2 Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted May 13, 2017 Super User Posted May 13, 2017 Remember you can swim any kind of jig it does not HAVE to be a swim jig head ( cone shape ). I fish the most is a 1/2 oz., and as a trailer I like paddle tails, grubs, lizards, baby brush hogs, ribbon tail worms! I fish a swim jig from spawn to late fall, shallow to deep water. 2 Quote
Super User Munkin Posted May 14, 2017 Super User Posted May 14, 2017 I have been making my own but whitish and bluegill are the best colors. For rods I either use a 6-9" MH with 12lb Floro or a 7' MH with 15lb Floro depending on the situation. As for trailers paddle tail swimbaits that are about 4" have worked best overall except in open/clear water then a 4" grub works. Below is a pic of my two best setups overall; whitish/blue with a PLIne Kick-R minnow, and a sunfish colored bait with a 3.8" Keitech in Pro Staff Special. The white bait catches more fish and works in different places but the bluegill one catches a lot of 4+ fish. Allen 2 Quote
Super User Angry John Posted May 14, 2017 Super User Posted May 14, 2017 I fish serberrt jigs from 1/4 to 1/2. The 1/4 works with a 4" bass assassin or keitech easy shiner in a matching color, i like ayu and the shad color. They 3/8ths i use a 3.8 swing impact fat or bass pro in the same size. Again i use ayu or a shad color. the 1/2 i use a shad color and shad colors. I for some reason have not used the ayu but it most likely will work. With the bigger baits 4.8 size i use owner beast hooks. If i were in waters i knew had larger fish i might use the swim jig head on the 4.8. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Bass_Assassin_Elite_Shiner_Swimbait_8pk/descpage-BSASESH.html http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Keitech_Swing_Impact_FAT/descpage-KSIF.html http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Keitech_Easy_Shiner/descpage-KEIEZSH.html 1 Quote
Mr Swim Jig Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 I fish North Star Baits Original Swim Jig in 5/16oz and their Flip-N-Swim Jig in 3/8oz, for colors I keep it pretty simple, White, Black and Blue and New Gill...There are a couple other colors but these are the main colors. For trailers you can't go wrong with any of them on the market, I personally prefer Reaction Innovations Skinny Dipper as my main trailer for all my swim jigs. But I will use single tail grubs, dual tail grubs, creature baits etc... I will use a swim jig basically anywhere and will work it like a regular jig or spinner bait and everything in between. Honestly they are just a great producing bait and it is really hard to find a time or place that they will not work... 1 Quote
Super User bowhunter63 Posted May 14, 2017 Super User Posted May 14, 2017 Like the SK 3/8 swim jig,Trailers i like Rage craw,Rage swimmer or kvd swimming Caffeine shad. 2 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted May 15, 2017 Super User Posted May 15, 2017 I assemble my own using BOSS swim jig heads, and skirts I make my self. Usually in a pattern to look like a bluegill or a yellow perch. But I make and use some black and blue ones, and white ones too, as they work well at times in certain conditions. I am pretty simple in my trailer use. I like a SK Rage tail grub, a 3" chigger craw (the 3" flaps more than the 4"), a Yum 4" swimming dinger, and a new to me experiment with trailers this year that has produced very well so far, is the tail of a 7" Power worm cut 4 "ribs" up from where the curly tail portion starts. So far, it's out produced the other trailers combined, and bonus...it's a cheap way to find a new use for power worms that have the head all torn up. 4 Quote
dwtaylor Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 I use 1/4 oz lethal weapon or brovarney swim jigs about 98% of the time and the other 2% a 3/8 oz of the same brands. For trailers, I use 4-5" single tail grubs, menace grubs, skinny dippers, speed craws, rage craws, and sometimes the occasional keitech. As far as colors go, I use primarily black/blue, white, and bluegill/green pumpkin. 1 Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted May 15, 2017 Super User Posted May 15, 2017 I like the pepper custom baits Fred Roumbanis signature swim jig, with either a Mr. Twister Split double tail or a Zoom Fat Albert Twin Tail for a trailer. I mostly use the 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 ounce sizes. I think of them as a spinnerbait without a blade, though I will pause them to allow them to sink a little more often. 1 Quote
Super User David P Posted May 17, 2017 Super User Posted May 17, 2017 Rage craws and pit bosses are tough to beat for craw presentations! Swimbait type trailed I love the Miyagi swimmer. Adds a nice bulk, and great action. Occasionally I use the keitech 3.8 when I want to downsize in certain situations. 1 Quote

Megastink Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 Like I said, Strike King 1/4oz Tour Grade and a Rage Craw. 1 Quote
bonzai22 Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 I started with a dirty jigs swim jig and have never had to throw another brand. For trailers I normally throw a rage craw in the fall sometimes a 5 inch white swim bait. 1 Quote
Super User RoLo Posted May 18, 2017 Super User Posted May 18, 2017 All Terrain 3/8 oz Grassmaster Jig Roger 1 Quote
thomas15 Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 And do you, as another poster mentioned, fish them like a spinnerbait? Try to vary the depth? Stop/go? Quote
Lures'n'Liberty Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 My buddy has me hooked on Screwy Lewy swim jigs. www.screwylewylures.com It is becoming a rare occasion when I don't catch bass on a green pumpkin. Quote
