KVD 1.5 Shallow

Maybe I have missed these before, but I recently came across the KVD 1.5 Shallow version on TW. The bill shape on these looks different from the standard 1.5 and I'm assuming causes this bait to run shallower than the standard 1.5. The question I have for you guys is how deep does this shallow version run? 

 

The Baby 1- has always been a top producer for me, but there are very few baits out there that only run in the 6-12" depth range. The only other bait I've really found in this range is the Evergreen Ch-1.

Fished this one a bit last fall (none this season so far) with limited results.

I don't believe I've fished it in 'just the right situation' yet but do expect it to shine when I do. 

It's advertised as running at 3 ft but I'd call that a max rather than an average.  Figure more like 12" - 18" on 15 lb flouro as average.

Seems like a good choice for throwing right up close to the bank.

So you're saying just a skosh deeper than a Baby 1-? Which would basically put it in between a standard 1.5 and a 1-, depth-wise.

I own a dozen 1.5 shallows. They get around 2' tops. GREAT baits. Very productive.

That's right about where mine run. Doesn't have as pronounced a wiggle as the standard 1.5, but it does get bit.

The lip on the 1.5 shallow is like that of crankbait style wake baits. The Yo-Zuri 3DB and 3DS wake baits will run about 6" to 8" when retrieved with the rod tip down at a moderate pace, I'm guessing the 6th sense Movement 80 wake will run like that as well as the Ima Roumba and the Rapala DT Fat 1. There are a lot of cranks now that run in the 1' range but my favorite is still the Mann's 1 minus, and the baby 1 minus, I don't use the mid 1 minus. To get to the 2' zone I use the Mann's Baby X, it is a baby 1 minus with a square bill with a slightly deeper angle but not as steep as the 1.5 shallow, out of all my more expensive baits the 1 minus and baby X are probably the ones that produce the best for me in super shallow water.

The 1.5 shallow is great over really shallow cover. On 12 pound test it gets down maybe 2.5', but generally in the 18" to 2' range.

Two feet on #10 for me.  This bait was a nice surprise last summer on super shallow rock flats in the early morning. The chartreuse perch was a great color.
