as I was going up the lake yesterday my motor complete stops mid run no smoke no oil when I turn the key I just get a hard click  when I get home and get the top off to motor looks fine take spark plugs out and the motor turn over no grinding or other noise in the motor good air coming out of spark plug holes ...then we notice that the
bendix is stuck up in the fly wheel it wont drop back down and realize that maybe the starter is not turning fast enough to get the boat started.....dose anyone have any experience with this that can help me out a little  bit

Is the battery fully charged?  Could just be a sticky bendix.  Could be a bad starter.  I had one go bad, and it was an easy replacement job.

it is a new battery I had it on charge over night took it out and it started it fine fist 3 times we moved spots that's all the battery is use for is the starter so id say yeah pretty much a charged battery....we would have to force it back down and turn they key and it would go up and turn the fly wheel but motor would not start then after letting of the key the bendix would not fall back down

Pretty easy to find with google.  I think mine was around $90 shipped.  Two bolts, and two connections.

Lets get back to the more important question. Do you know why your engine stopped running? If the engine was running fine and you were flying down the lake, then it just quits there is a serious problem. Your starter may be a victim of another issue. Could you have just accidentally pulled on the kill switch lanyard, putting the switch half way in the middle of on and off?  That can happen and you may not notice it because when you move around to see what happened it may have sprung back to the on position.  If it was in the off position you may have burned up the starter cranking it while the kill switch would not allow the engine to start.

I agree with him why did the engine quit?

To your other question if the starter got stuck in the flywheel and you ran it like that it will burn up a starter quickly

no the kill switch stayed in the on position..... it was like the gas cut off on it or something no noise or nothing just completely died

When it cut off was is sluggish under full throttle?

Last year my motor cut off while I was on plane, similar to what you are stating.  My problem was in the fuel line.  The line wasn't keeping pressure and it was due to having a pin size hole in the primer bulb.  If your engine is shutting off while on plane and you have ruled out your kill switch I would definitely check your primer bulb and fuel line for cracks/holes.  Hopefully it is not something major causing you to lose total engine power.

no it was running great it was on plane...I wouldn't say its losing total power like I said it is cranking  but not starting it will crank about 3 turns of the key then go back to a hard click let it reast for a few and then it will give you a low crank again like its trying to start

If it was turning over with the spark plugs out, it's possible that your valves need adjustment.  Pressure is built up when plugs are in, therefore will not turn over.  Had this happen on my lawnmower, same principle - different application.  Adjusted valves to spec and bingo, started right up and ran great again.

Before you start throwing parts at this, try adjusting the valves.

Best of luck.

I am NOT a mechanic (though I sometimes play one on television) but if the problems began when the motor was running fine and it inexplicably quit, I DOUBT it is the starter.  A bad starter won't make a motor stop running.  Sounds electrical (besides starter) to me.
