Such a fantastic shot of a mature supercell thunderstorm, illuminated at varying heights from the setting sun. Texas Storm chaser Laura Rowe captured this picture of a lifetime on May 17, 2021.

Big deal.  This is what the sky looks like every time I have a day off that I can fish.

Congrats bud and kudos to Mrs. 12poundbass for putting up with this guy for so long.

I was tying on a new bait in a little cove on the river when a dog comes up letting me know to stay in the water.  Then his partner in crime, a potbellied pig, comes down to join in.  I think it was trying to bark too, but the sound that came out was hilarious.  I wish I had gotten the audio, so much better than the picture.

Congrats!

Mrs. Blue and I will be celebrating 11 years Friday. I'll be gone for a fishing tournament. How she's put up with me for this long, I'll never know ?‍♂️

Thanks Paul. That was date night last Friday and that picture was taken after the sun went down. Mrs. 12poundbass is Bassresource camera shy (though I don’t know why) so that’s what you get. ?

Every time I drive through southern Portugal I'm reminded that all the best rods have a little bit of this place in them, and that just gives me the warm and fuzzies. I present to you the mighty cork oak.

I had to replace a mailbox inside our brick enclosure last month. Before placing the new box inside the enclosure, one of my granddaughters placed her time capsule, consisting of photos, small toys, and drawings inside.

As a stonemason, I’ve come across a few little  “treasures” buried inside old fireplaces and chimneys I’ve torn apart over the years. Nothing of any real value, but it’s still neat to see. My great grandfather used to smoke a pipe, and I’ve rebuilt a few chimneys that he built many years ago. I can always tell if he laid the bricks on them because about every 4 rows or so there’s a match in the mortar joint where he relit his pipe.

We have a home in Wisconsin that we gutted to the studs and tore out the maple floors. Underneath the flooring dead set in the middle of one of the rooms there was a sheet of newspaper from 1910.

From what I understand, the home was originally an "Ice house". The home is across the street from what is known as the Upper Dells, on the Wisconsin River. I guess they would cut blocks of ice and ship them south on insulated rail cars to use for refrigeration.

I never new these even existed...Back in March it was reported that Wyatt Frankens had caught the Texas state record smallmouth/largemouth hybrid bass out of O.H. Ivie. He submitted paperwork in March, and yesterday, he received his certification from the IGFA that his catch is indeed the new world record for smallmouth x largemouth hybrid bass. 7.60 lbs.

As I understand it, sm/lm hybrids are exceedingly rare because they have pretty drastically different spawning site preferences. Dude shoulda bought a few scratch tickets the day he caught that.

I’m working on an island right now that’s about 100yds from the landing where I park my truck. Been using my 12’ tinny to get back and forth to work every day. This morning as I’m trolling over to the job, I see something swimming towards me from the island, thought it was a snake till it got closer. Turns out it was a red squirrel, just absolutely giving it all he had to get to shore. This is in a shallow back bay of a lake that has monster size pike in it. I stopped the boat to watch and see if he made it, thought for sure there’d be a pike under that boathouse just waiting to hammer him when he got close, but I guess it was his lucky day as he made it safe and sound.

I’ll pass on that job!

That’s a pretty cool pic. Having worked in the utility field for 11 years I’ve hoped to see this in person by now but I’m still waiting.

One more set of Trout in the Classroom photos - these were from Thursday when a 4th grade class made their annual pilgrimage to release trout fry they raised from eggs into the Guadalupe tailwater.

The kids were excited.

Just as many parents attended

After praying over their fish to find their place in the plan - even if that's to be food, acclimating the fish with river water,  and also acclimating the kids in the coldwater tailrace,

each released four rainbow fry into the river.

Karen, on the right, began TIC in Texas almost 20 years ago, and after a few years with a leg injury, volunteered me to take it over.  She now ramrods Texas Women Flyfishers.  The teacher on the left, Kate, is the daughter of one of the late founders of GRTU.  Karen and Kate had stories to swap about Kate's dad.

That helicopter looks a lot like a MH-6.  Some of the most exhilarating helicopter rides I've taken have been in those.  I'll bet that's a fun job, all said.
