Black Bass Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 I received some money and feel the bait monkey wispering in my ear. What top water lures do you/would you like to have in your bass kit? Quote

bassmaster8100 Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Snagproof Frog in the lilly pads. Around timber Ive had my best success with Heddon torpedo and a Strike King buzzbait. Quote
NEBassMan Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Jitterbug, Skitter Walk, Spit'n King, Buzzbait Jason Quote
jasone Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 I'd go with the old standbys and try to get a qty of nice lures rather than a few real expensive ones. So IMHO skip all the LCs. *3 buzzbaits (Lunker lure are still the best IMO). White, Chart and Black (3/8 or 1/2). *2 walking types lures. Either skitterwalks or spooks. Rapalas rattle like crazy. Spooks are more quiet. I am of the opinion here that color doesnt matter for topwater baits such as these. The thing to remember here is that the fish is looking up and will be pretty much blinded by the sun. It will only see the outline. *2 Poppers. I like chugbugs but Pop-Rs are just as good. Again, color and brand not so important here. *2 Prop baits. I would go with a devil's horse and a torpedo just to mix up the profiles. *1 Jitterbug (cause you never know when you might need it). That's less than $60 and should take care of most situations. Hope that helps. J Quote
Pa Angler Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Any Pop-R type no matter what Brand they are, Heddon Popin Image, Jitter Bug & Hula Popper. Quote

larrybass Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Well folks, after huntin' bass for over 4 decades, I'd have to say my #1 surface lure for SMBass is easily the Tiny Torpedo by Heddon! I've caught Smallies on this lure, everywhere I've ever tried it. Don't be afraid to try different things with this killer bait. While you're pausin' it or sof-twitchin' it, a bassie will come up and bust it for you, if you're doin' it just right! 8-) Now for the Bigmouths, in sloppy, weedy water, I go along with Culprit and say that I've Walked more than my share of scrappy largemouths with Bill Normans Weed Walker than I can even remember. My ex used to hang a pork frog on the back of her WW and always ended the day with bigger bass than I did. I never did let on that without the pork I could usually spank her. There is something special about seeing a smiling woman with a six pound hog bass drapped over her thumb! 8-) May the hogs attack yer surface lures everytime on the lake this year folks... ;D lb Quote
0119 Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Super Spook Jr.'s have been very good to me over the years but lately the quality has crashed..... The Sammy 100 size is my go to topwater now. Also experimenting with the new Sebile topwaters that are filled with mineral water and moving glitter inside. Quote

Banor Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 You have to be more specific. Cloudy, windy day? Noise makers - pop-r, chug bugs, buzz baits. Calm blue bird day? walk the doggers like sammies and zara spooks Slop/Heavy cover? Toads - Zoom Frogging is my favorite! I'd buy lots of soft plastic toads. B Quote
LONGEARS Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 My favorite is a bullfrog coloured pop-r and one we use here locally in and around surface weeds is a grey weedlees rubber mouse Quote
