Bass'N'Bluegill Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 Hi, Im pretty new to bass fishing. I have a Kastking Royale Legend Low Profile Baitcasting reel. What brand of reel grease and oil should I use? I do maintenence on it about once every couple months.I only have some cheap grease and oil I got from Walmart (Penn brand), I use that, but want to use something that will make my reel run smoother. Nor-Cal Basser Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 I use Daiwa oil and Mil-Comm TW25B. TW25B is a light synthetic grease that was designed for use on M134 mini guns, but I found that it works wonderfully on reels. Regreasing every two weeks might be a bit too often, but a couple drops of oil in that time frame is fine. Quote
OnthePotomac Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 I use Yellow Rocket Fuel in my metal bearings, Oust Met oil in ceramic bearings, Reel X on my worm gears and Super Lube on the gears. I used to pack my pinion bearings in Super Lube, but now dip them in TSI 301. Many anglers use Yamaha Blue Marine grease on their gears and pinion bearings. Not Yamaha general purpose grease, but the blue. Drag washers get Shimano drag grease, but Cal's is also excellent. 1 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 What your using may be just fine. There's no magic in lubricants and nothing about a reel that requires anything special, just appropriate for the application. Marine grease for gears, gear oil for sliding parts, level wind and non spool bearings and light oil for spool bearings. (3in1, Remoil, or even sewing machine oil) 3 Quote

junyer357 Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 I use shimano grease and boca oil. I really like the plunger style tube for the boca oil. Its easy to apply with less mess and better control. 1 Quote

CTBassin860 Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 I use the Quantam Hot Sauce both oil and grease. It does the job and costs about 10 bucks. Quote
Super User Angry John Posted February 17, 2017 Super User Posted February 17, 2017 Boca lightning oil and daiwa space age grease. Both come in handy aplicators. Quote

I tried it before i switched to the shimano grease and boca oil. Picked up the reel cleaning kit. It felt cheap to me. Was squeezing grease out onto main gear and it popped the back of the tube out and grease went everywhere. Oil tube leaked out of bottle. It was a waste of money to me. Only thing i kept that was useful was the screwdriver in the kit. Made the switch and its much much better now. Zero problems with boca oil or applicator. I actually keep the oil, screwdriver, and a small paintbrush i use to apply oil in the case the oil came in. Then that tube, a small crescent wrench, grease, and an old washcloth go in a ziplock bag for storage. It goes with me on fishing trips incase its needed. Quote
Super User MickD Posted February 17, 2017 Super User Posted February 17, 2017 my experience with Quantum hot sauce is that it dries out quicker than anything else I've used and then all that's left is that ugly red stain. The late Reel Mech would charge extra for servicing a reel that was "contaminated" with Hot Sauce. I agree with DVT. Quote
jbw252 Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Listen to Mike at Delaware Valley Tackle. He does this for a living. 1 Quote
