Picking up a new baitcaster soon...Looking for a low profile hard use reel...It will be used for mostly Indiana and Colorado blade spinnerbaits (also some willow), topwaters (jointed jitterbugs etc), and chatterbaits.....Looking at the Revo Winch gen3 , Quantum Smoke HD, and an E series chronarch.....Thoughts? Suggestions on the reels listed? Others?

The E all the way.

Reasons? I've never owned a chronarch , a local sporting good store still has a couple E.series in stock

For starters it's a Shimano, but more than that

the drag & brake system is silky smooth and consistent.

It has a boss finish to boot  ;)

What he said and it is still one of my favorites to use.  I have 7 E series 4 Chronarch 200s, 1 Chronarch 50, 1 Curado 200 and Curado 50.  I use them all the time.  They keep their value too!

Another vote for the Chronarch!

I just picked up the revo winch gen 3 and it seems to be a great reel. I got it for deep crankbaits and midsized swimbaits. I started outo with abu stuff and have never had a problem with them.

I had 2 Chronarch 50e reels. Upgraded both to

7.1:1. Sold one, so down to one (I simply use

spinning more).

I can highly recommend it. Love it. Cast light

baits a country mile, and so forth :) .

I love the  con A and con C

22lb drag, great gear ratios for righty slick styling and 13 also offers trick shop options to deck the reel out.

I have 2 shimano stradics I love them never bought a baitcaster from them. I bet they are smooth as well and you can't go wrong with the company as a whole

I'm not a quantum man at all I have used there tour pt baitcaster and they were kinda big for a low profile IMHO. I had an energy spinning reel the anti-reverse blew out in under 6months.

as for abu-garcia I'm take em or leave em. the revo winch would be one of my choices for a deep crankbait due to the low gear ratio. but other reels I'm more partial to also offer 5:4:1

Only one good reel in that list and starts with Shimano.  Chronarch's will provide years of hassle free use.

I just noticed that the Revo STX is going on sale next Friday for $135 at the BP spring sale.  I had my mind all made up to get a Lew's TP (I own one already and can definitely recommend this as a great reel), but then I saw the Revo on sale and they are practically giving BPQ's away for $49.  I could get a Revo and the BPQ and have money left over for lunch.   That's probably the way I will go - when it comes to reels I feel like so many of them are so close in quality and features that the deciding factor for me is price.   I know many reels are made with the same components in the same factories, so I try not to get hung up on brand loyalty too much with reels.

That STX  is an excellent reel..

I remember when they first came out, a lot of folks here and on other board's were commenting on how great it was.

An STX Gen 1 was my 3rd or 4th baitcast reel.  It has been good to me.  Never a problem with it and have made some of my longest casts with this reel.  Gen 2 reels seem to be the most popular.  Gen 3 reels not as popular with some folks.  I don't know if that is across the board or just some models.  I've only used Gen 1, but have a Gen 2 Premier that hasn't seen any use by me yet.

Op, no experience with the models you mentioned.  I have some E-series Curados, but no Chronarch Es.  If I had those choices I'd go with the Chronarch.  (I do have other model Chronarchs.)  As for "Others?"....wow...lots of choices.  An older Zillion should fit the bill nicely.  Can't comment on longevity, but I love my Primmus Xi HS reels.  Same for the Helios Air.  Tatula and Tatula CT (and Type R from both lines) are low cost alternatives.  Pflueger is the Rodney Dangerfield of baitcast reels.  A Supreme XT or...for a bit more...the Patriarch are also options.  I like my Con A and of course we can't leave out Lew's.

You have so many good choices today it is hard to choose just one.  Let us know what you decide.

Ok so out of those options I would go with the E series. However, I prefer the 5 speed reel and I would take the new Abu Garcia ALX over all of them. I have the Chronarch and the Winch. The new ALX outfishes them in my opinion. Low profile makes it easy to palm and the thing casts like a dream.

But as as to your question, the chronarch has held up as has the winch, but the chronarch is just a tad smoother. I replaced the drag and bearings on both so they are both more than capable.

Who here knows of a baitcasting reel with a "flipping switch" feature?

Could be anything, expensive or inexpensive

An example of a reel with one is the Lew's Super Duty G but I'm trying to look at other options

Quantum used to have some models with a flipping switch. Do quantum still exist?

I guess I am one of those hung up on brand loyalty. I have 6 Lew's reels and love each one of them. I got my daughter some of the American hero reels and called Lews about getting some bearings for the knobs on the handle and they mailed me the bearing free of charge. I always send them to lews for cleaning and lube. I usually have the reels back within a week. to me that kind of customer service means a lot.

I hate when people say what I am about to say ?

Look for a used Bantam or save up a little more.

If this is not an option, chronarch......

If you need the lower gears the winch is the only option.

You really should start a separate thread.   That way people with knowledge on such reels will be able to help you much easier.  I only know of older Daiwas.
