I believe it was here that I read about @Delaware Valley Tackle. I've decided to send them my reels for off season maintenance but I have a few questions for those in the know.

I have a Lew's Tourney MB and a old Greenie Curado that I want serviced.  I figure a basic service will suffice for the Lew's (used 1 season) but the Curado I got from my father in law.

The Curado was never used before this season, as far as I know.  But, it did go in the drink a couple of times this season.  Should I invest in the performance tune and possibly some Boccas or will it be fine with standard maintenance?

Also, how does DVT receive payment?  Do they bill me for service prior to sending the reels back or what?

Thanks for any info you guys can provide.  Ive read great things about DVT and I'm looking forward to getting my reels ready for next season.

Jason, I've used DVT's reel cleaning service a few times.  Mike does top rate work at a Very Reasonable price.

I'd get the reels cleaned - piece of mind thing.

I received your email and will reply shortly. For anyone else reading here: cleaning service is $22 less 10% for members here ($19.80)   I accept all forms of payment but the vast majority use PayPal. I bill when the work is done. There is a work order form on the website with shipping address:

Having just done my own and taking on a couple older ambassadeur reels for a friend I have to say that 20 bucks is a great price! I had 2 and a half hours in just one of those ambassadeurs.

Shimano reels have pretty good bearings from the factory.  It has been my limited experience with Shimanos that it isn't worth upgrading the bearings unless the ones in the reel need replacing.  If you want to upgrade something, have Mike install a Carbontex drag kit.   Normally it is around an $8 option and usually well worth it.

I do my own, but DVT got the call on a problem child reel I had a while back. I got top notch service and communication from Mike. He's a real asset to the community here, and I wouldn't hesitate sending him anything if I needed his expertise again.

I had 2 "old greenies" I thought were trash, 20+ years of abuse really took its toll,... Mike serviced them and they are now as good, or even better than new.

  Thanks again Mike

I've got a reel on the way back from DVT right now.  I've had him supertune a few reels for me, and they all come back better than new.

What's the average turn around time?

i'd get mike to supertune the curado, but wouldn't worry with the bearing upgrade.  he'll clean and flush the bearings and they'll perform about as well or even better as brand new ones!

Thanks for the input, you guys.  I can't wait to get these guys wet again.

Depending on what needs to be done, as of today 2-3 weeks things are ramping up. If you need a deadline for a trip or tournament contact me and I cDNA usually schedule around other things.
