XF15-Loader Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 I believe it was here that I read about @Delaware Valley Tackle. I've decided to send them my reels for off season maintenance but I have a few questions for those in the know. I have a Lew's Tourney MB and a old Greenie Curado that I want serviced. I figure a basic service will suffice for the Lew's (used 1 season) but the Curado I got from my father in law. The Curado was never used before this season, as far as I know. But, it did go in the drink a couple of times this season. Should I invest in the performance tune and possibly some Boccas or will it be fine with standard maintenance? Also, how does DVT receive payment? Do they bill me for service prior to sending the reels back or what? Thanks for any info you guys can provide. Ive read great things about DVT and I'm looking forward to getting my reels ready for next season. -J Quote

For anyone else reading here: cleaning service is $22 less 10% for members here ($19.80) I accept all forms of payment but the vast majority use PayPal. I bill when the work is done. Super User new2BC4bass Posted January 9, 2017 Super User Posted January 9, 2017 Shimano reels have pretty good bearings from the factory. It has been my limited experience with Shimanos that it isn't worth upgrading the bearings unless the ones in the reel need replacing. If you want to upgrade something, have Mike install a Carbontex drag kit. Normally it is around an $8 option and usually well worth it. Quote

Super User buzzed bait Posted January 9, 2017 Super User Posted January 9, 2017 i'd get mike to supertune the curado, but wouldn't worry with the bearing upgrade. he'll clean and flush the bearings and they'll perform about as well or even better as brand new ones! Quote
